Welcome to the February edition of the VFW email Newsletter.
VFW NATIONAL NEWS: President's FY06 Budget Shortchanging Veterans
Budget cuts for veterans' programs in the Bush administration's FY06 budget will drastically curtail access to VA care say VFW officials. The budget proposal calls for doubling the co-pay for prescription drugs and requiring an enrollment fee for veterans desiring to use VA health-care facilities. VFW Commander John Furgess says it's pretty clear that the funding of veterans' health care and other programs is not an administration priority and is accusing the Bush administration of trying to balance the federal deficit "... on the backs of military veterans."

The Veterans Health Administration has received record budget increases over the last four years. With this budget proposal, the President, working in partnership with Congress, will have increased health care funding for veterans by more than 47 percent since FY 01. The Presidents FY 06 budget proposal requests $30.7 billion for VAs health care program.
As has been said, this is just a budget proposal. I suspect that there may be some unintended consequences of proposals and restructuring that will get hammered out in Congress. But in no way can they characterize Bush as turning his back on veterans. Kerry tried the same thing in his campaign...I don't think he got much traction there either.
Someone put "nubie" in my key words! = 0 Who's playin? = )
The Keywords can be added by anybody, some people use it as a way to trash the thread without actually posting to it. The Moderators don't appreciate it much, and have warned people not to do it.
So anyone can do it as long as they don't trash the thread? I didn't take offense to it REALLY. I thought it was kinda cute! I'm the NUBIE!! = )
I never add keywords..... My first post to you is proof of that, As you can see.... I have no problem jumping right in and making a fool of myself :-)
They are opening them in areas where there are clusters of eligible vets.
I believe ya! :-D
Bandit, I have a friend who is particularly frustrated in his "wait" for his medical care. He has some kind of "gulf war syndrome" and he says that they aren't taking care of it. On the other hand, I have known many Vets that say that their every healthcare need is taken care of completely. I do think it should be our biggest priority to take care of our own first. If taking care of our veterns means taking money away from foreign things, I'm all for it. Guess since it is only a bill that hasn't even been passed yet, we will wait and see what happens! = )
Polish Proud, good point... and good point. hehehe
Polish, whether or not you put your life on the line or not, you served your country well. ; ) Very noble statements though! My friend is a combat veteran. He says he has "gulf war syndrome" and says he is not getting the healthcare he needs. He just retired from the Army last year.
Truly, the hate that the liberals feel for the President control them to a point where they can stare at an apple and call it a banana just because George W said it was an apple. Some of them have their dukes up when there is nothing to fight about and no one to fight with! I honestly believe that if they would just get informed, opinions would change and it boggles me why people WANT to stay blind to truth. We live in a world where it is all about what we feel. What is right and true has to take a back seat so the rest of the world won't get their feelings hurt.
Historically, VA hospitals are the most inefficient hospitals in the nation. They are the best domestic argument against socialized medicine. A siginificant portion of their customers are habitual malingerers.
Suppose we make a distinction between 4 categories of vets.
Those who were injured in combat and while properly performing their assigned duties
Those injured in drunken traffic accidents and other negligence while in the service
Those who suffer from real or imagined "stress syndrome".
Those who suffered no injury which is 90% of us, including me. (I cannot blame my insanity on my service in Vietnam. It was a pre-existing condition.)
Clearly the first group deserves taxpayer care ... preferably in private hospitals and not socialist hospitals. But under what morality or illogic do the other three groups .... especially the last group that includes most of us .... deserve socialist healthcare?
You are likely much more informed than I am on this subject. I certainly agree that service provider redundancy makes absolutely no sense.
Very intresting points guys! Thanks so much from your input. I learned a lot in this discussion. Thank you so much for serving our country. = )
