Free Stanley's mission is to make sure there are Stanley Cup playoffs this hockey season. We love the Stanley Cup playoffs and we love the Cup. We believe it is the best trophy in all of sport, and it should not be denied to the best hockey team is playing this season. If there is no NHL season the Stanley Cup should then be awarded to the best hockey team in Canada, which was Lord Stanley's original intent for the Cup.
A new model for Stanley's Cup
We propose that the Stanley Cup be returned to its original challenge cup format. For now this challenge would be limited to a competition among the remaining top level hockey leagues operating in Canada. An end of season tournament involving the winner of the Canada University Hockey Championship, the Memorial Cup winner, the Allan Cup winner (senior men's hockey), and the best team from among the Canadian minor professional hockey league teams in leagues such as the AHL and ECHL. Should the NHL ever start playing again, its champion - however determined -- might also be allowed into the challenge tournament. The competition should also eventually grow to allow other amateur and minor pro leagues to compete (the Calder Trophy winner, the winner of the University championship etc.)
In light of the legal opinion received by Free Stanley, we believe it is premature to call for the current Cup Trustees to be replaced. We now believe the Trustees have all the authority and power they need to award the Stanley Cup this year even if the NHL season is cancelled.

That part was to Purple, wasn't sure if he was on this, I've been guiding him to the good ping lists.
Good luck with that guys. I'll be happily watching the Frozen Four this year but if this is televised in the US, I'll watch that too.
That salary cap has really hurt the NFL. /sarcasm
I like this suggestion, but for the sake of encouraging interest in the U.S. they should include the AHL and ECHL champions regardless of where they play.
I agree, but they should play for the Cup in Canada, and do so in a way that would prevent ANYONE associated with the NHL (league, owners, or players) from realizing any revenue from the games. Flood the ballpark where the Blue Jay's play and drop the puck.

Slight problem with those Canucks seeking to make it Canadian-only; even before the NHL assumed effective (1924) or legal (1949) control of the Stanley Cup, it was open to American teams. If they want a Canadian-only championship, find a different trophy.
