I need to record 33 seconds of a song from my computer to a cd and I have no clue how to just record a portion of a song.

Do you have Sound Forge 7.0?

Roxio should have a wave editor, which makes editing wave files easy.

I'm no expert, but I think you need to use a program to cut that part out of the song. Then you will be able to record just the part you need.

Search for "audio editing freeware"

There are many very good programs made available free of charge.

Speaking of that, does anyone know a good free software program that edits/splits mpegs, avi, etc, into smaller parts?
Thanks!

This is one free program you can use:

http://www.freecorder.com/

Download and install it. Then play your audio through your regular computer player. At the appropriate location, press record on Freecorder and stop at the next appropriate location.

It will save as an mp3 file.

Download the free version of Total Recorder here-

http://www.highcriteria.com/

and you can edit mp3s. It's the best software for this sort of thing.

I use Silent Bob

Any sound your computer makes, from any source, can be recorded to a wav file.

It's a small download, and free.

Download a copy of a free program called "GoldWave". You can then open your MP3 file and chop out the 33 second clip you want, save it as a .wav file or an .mp3 file and then burn it to CD. There is a short learning curve to GoldWave but it is all mouse driven. Left click for start point, right click for end point then click on "Delete unselected".

Easy as 1, 2, 3....and maybe 4.

Not sure if she gives advice, but her website may have some useful info.

What kind of song?

"Country music" is difficult to replicate electronically due to it's extreme ignorance.
