After his second attempt at defibrillation, the ER doctor was warned by a nurse that I had a living will/power of attorney for health care that expressed my wish not to be the subject of extraordinary resuscitation efforts. He ignored her, shouted "Clear," and hit me one more time with the paddles. Nully's subsequent economic enslavement in the chains of my Social Security entitlement notwithstanding, the rest is history.
As I wish the courts had done with Terri, someone--the doctor in my case--applied judgment and ethics to the law and saved my life. Someone should have saved hers.
Sweetie pie, if that is what you specify to a power-of-attorney, then that is what you will have...trust me.
Now, let us hope that your son does not take out a lot of innocent health care workers because you did not die fast enough, as you threatened to do.
I don't object to defib, or an IV, but when you get to feeding tubes and respirators, anything that is gonna last more than a day, it is time for a friend to be able to finish me off.

LL's Dad died last year, we pulled life saving techniques in the end because he was dying, his organs were failing, much like your Dad. Terri wasn't dying. It is clear to me from reading statements that she responds more than the "vegetative state" diagnosis. It is quite a different issue than your Dad or LL's who were dying. It is also clear to me that the judge left out lots of testimony he should not have, plus with the issue divided, and the relatives willing to take her over, what was there to gain by summarily ruling on such thin evidence? What would have been wrong with doing the new tests that diagnose this clearly as opposed to the old brain scan stuff you posted? Why was that a problem to you or anyone for that matter?
Methinks you are not seeing this clearly, that was the reason for my Andrew Sullivan comment. I am no friend of Randall Terry, and not any where near an extreme keep them alive forever advocate having signed my own living will to not go on extreme life support (I'll take a feeding tube anyday though), but it sure seems you have gone over most reasonable lines with this case. BTW....I started out ambivalent and stayed away from this case until the tube was pulled.
