After a nine month hiatus, The Neverending Story, the granddaddy of daily threads, has returned to Free Republic. Originally begun on March 24, 2001, as a religious discussion thread, the NES evolved over time into a daily thread spanning a wide variety of topics. The new and improved Neverending Story will feature conversation on religion, politics, culture, current events, business, sports, family, hobbies, general fellowship and more. We welcome you to hang your hat in our little corner of FR. We ask you to abide by the FR posting rules and, even in the midst of serious debate, to keep the discussion friendly and respectful. Those who wish to "duke it out" are asked to take it over to the Smoky Backroom. I placed this thread in "General/Chat" for a reason, so play nice and have fun! :o)
What I don't get is, if they don't like the rules, why don't they go start their own "Womyn's Catholic Church"?
To suggest that dispersed ashes are somehow disrespectful, what then happens to those who were blown to bits and scattered by war? Are only those dispersed by others at risk? What about those that are scattered/dispersed during solemn, respectful memorial services?
#1, they don't want to be free to have their own dogmas, they want no one else to contradict them and
#2, it's essentially a tantrum. They want the approval that they will never get. Sometimes Sarah thinks if she says "please" louder and louder I am going to permit her to do what I forbade.
Same thing, really.
SD
We do. End of story.
He is not limited. I believe that since YHWH can gather His people from all over the earth, He can reunite the person's ashes, too.
We have no doubts either and it's kind of strange that you think we do. Is it that hard to think that we think that the deceased's remains should be treated with respect?
SD
Naturally you have a "Plan B" for those whose bodies are vaporized in a crash, fire, or explosion? No ashes, no nothing to "respect".
The Catechism position on cremation has no bearing, nor takes a position on the disposition of the ashes of a cremated person. Scattering them to the winds is not "a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body."
If you are going to cite the Catechism as your authority please limit yourself to what is said. If you are going to cite the Catechism according to SD please acknowledge it.
I guess all those people incinerated in the WTC are SOL, huh? (according to catholics, anyway)
Nothing made by God to serve as a dwelling place for His Spirit is "junk." You really don't get the Incarnational aspects of the Faith.

I believe I pointed out at least twice that it is considered disrespectful. Whether or not one intends to deny the Resurrection. The Ark of the Covenant was just some box that God used to dwell in. Did the Hebrews burn it for fuel afterwards?

As far as that goes the Catholic Church takes no position on the disposition of the ashes of the cremated body. This is purely a SDism.
You are correct, of course.
Hey Dave.
My wife was stuck in standstill traffic for 1 hour+ on I-90 near Northeast due to many accidents yesterday. Very bad weather in the Erie area. She said it was the worst weather in which she's ever driven.
It's only a matter of time. The church used to be opposed to cremation, now it accepts it. In time they will accept dispersal, too. The church will realize that it isn't any more disrespectful to disperse the ashes of a body that once housed the spirit of G-d, than it is disrespectful for a body that still houses the spirit of G-d and drinks to excess, or smokes etc.
Heheheh. I get that a lot, too. :o)
You want in on our NCAA tourney bracket contest next year? No cash, just bragging rights.
Sure. Nebraska all the way! ;)
Parts of Erie county got 19 inches. That's crazy. I'm glad we went to Splash Lagoon a few weeks ago.
SD
Interesting example you have chosen to use.
