Is it ok to feed my cats raw bacon?
Posted on 12/24/2004 11:51:13 AM PST by little bus
One day, my cats were hungry and I didn't have anything in the house to feed them except raw bacon. They loved it! I continued to give them raw bacon each day and now it's their favorite food (they won't eat raw sausage, though). In fact, now they don't want anything else. I've tried different foods on them - vienna sausage, potted meat, canned mackerel, etc., but they want their bacon. Someone told me this might not be good for the cats, but they seem healthy. What do you think? I see cats on this sight sometimes when I surf, so maybe you know something here.

My Jack Russells both love cooked bacon but they get it in moderation. I don't get mine from the grocery store though. I get it from a slaughter house store and it never has preservatives or anything in it. It's not even refrigerated. It just hangs on hooks in the open. We get it sliced and buy about 50lbs at a time. When I get it home I split it up into 1 gallon freezer bags and put it in the freezer. None of our meat comes from the grocery store. We keep a home grown calf in the freezer all year.
They never get sausage because of the herbs and they hate raw bacon. I'm sure it's not good if they eat much though so for them it's just a small occasional treat.

Try salting the foods they won't eat now, it may be that the salt in bacon is what they crave. Also, try adding a little garlic to cat food, it seemed to make our cat more interested in it. After all, cats can get bored with the same thing day-in-day-out, too.

No! Trichinosis. Your cat is just as susceptible to worms as you are.

Please, whatever you do, don't let them get a taste of raw, human flesh ... You extremists sicken me! Everything in moderation. ;^)

Nothing personal but IMHO two strikes. Springer - high strung and twitchy. Spaniel - no brains bred in and all of the previous ones bred out.
HOWEVER, I approve of not eating Bologna having been to the place they make it.

You probably should not let the cats drive your Mercedes, after the incident in Arizona recently.
