Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.

What if I don't have any children? Does that mean I can treat the world any way I want to?
Methinks you meant to visit www.treehuggersandvegans.com and got on FR by mistake.

I Know! Why don't we have a world government that controls what we can and cannot do. We could then have a mark placed on our right hands or forehead, that you cannot buy or sell without. That should really stop those dissenters that just want to pillage the earth. Yea, Yea that's it!

I personally believe that a lot of good things are being done right now to protect our planet. More can always be done of course, but I do think that the Earth is heading in a cleaner direction." Just so you know. No one here wants a bad environment, hell nobody anywhere does. Currently we are doing more than ever to see to it nothing bad happens. One does have to strike a good balance between what is over kill in protection, and what is over kill in pollution, and I think we have it about right.
Most people here are skeptical of environmentalism because what once was a good well intentioned movement was taken over by anti-capitalist socialists, who want to use the environmental movement as a way to bring down companies, and empower governments. That's not gonna work, not on our watch!

I'm sorry, but it's funny. You are quite right, of course. She probably will get some dents in her fender. That being said, she seems pretty earnest and well-meaning. We ought to lay off the meanie-meanie and try to CONVERT her! LOL

Necessity is the mother of invention; rather than allowing the future generations to vegetate while living in some "unspoiled" tree or a cave, we are passing on to them a noble challenge to be worthy of the name 'humans' and to live by their wits, thereby earning that name. [Please note: 'humans', not 'greenpissers']

I just wish these evironmentalist wacko terrorists would stop torching construction sites. The pollution they cause is worse than my worktrucks and we are forced to kill more trees to replace the burnt ones. Not to mention more strip mining to get metal for the nails.

What are your thoughts on the status of the Earth? Do you feel global warming is a real threat? The quote "Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children." is a very very true statement I believe. Man is not so powerful that he can destroy the Earth. He is also smart enough to manage it so it will remain hospitable to him. We can muck it up for ourselves, foul the water, air and land to the point that it makes us sick, even kills some of us. But, the minute we stop polluting - or in the highly unlikely event man should go extinct - the Earth will clean itself up again.
As for global warming, there is no credible science that will conclude global warming is not part of Earth's normal cycle of warming and cooling. How long has man been able to record the the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere? And how old is the Earth? To say that we can accurately discern a pattern of warming and cooling in the short time we have been able to record Earth's temperatures is like saying you know intimately at the first handshake of someone you have only just met.
What is behind the fad of global warming? The same that was behind the fad in the 60's and 70's that we were facing a coming ice age. Money! Purporting that there is some imminent danger from global warming brings in a great deal of money to those groups with a vested interest in "fighting" it, including environmental groups and scientists.

First, "the Earth" and "the environment" are not the same thing. There is little that we can do to harm "the Earth".
About the only danger to "the Earth" that we can really do anything about is to find a means to deflect any large asteroids that might slam into us.
In fact, that should probably be our focus above all other environmental issues, too. What good does it do us to reverse the natural trend of global warming, hold hands and sing songs, if a single asteroid can wipe it all out?
