We saw the very end of the Packers game as bonus coverage after our game. I was pulling hard for the Pack to win in regulation and not go into OT.

The story about Brett getting the crew cut is very touching. I gather that's an interim step and he's going to end up shaving his head. I told hubby about it and he remarked that Brett is not only one of the best QBs ever but also one heckuva person! I concur!

I'm sure you are better prepared to recognize it, than even an MD who has practiced only here in the states. Aren't you going to need an Rx if it turns out to be malaria?

Scary, VERY Scary. Does malaria lie dormant in the body and reoccur occasionally? Only once? Does anybody know?

Ah, sorry about that. A phone call came in from a colleague just as I was posting that last message. Her temp is a low-grade fever, nothing soaring.

I'm making the diagnosis based on symptoms and knowing the opportunistic nature of the diseas. Malaria camouflages itself very well and so I may have misdiagnosed and could be overdosing her. My starting her on these meds will make it harder to get a clinical diagnosis based on blood work. Oh well.

The malaria parasite lives in a person's liver for a long time lying dormant. If a person's immune system is compromised by a cold or operation or whatever it frequently will use that opportunity to flourish into the blood stream. That's when a person feels ill. The youngest was sick right before Thanksgiving and this is the toward the end of that incubation period.

Most people like me bring malaria meds with them and have them just in case a situation like this develops. It takes a lot of experience to be able to accurately diagnosis malaria. I just don't think there is a clinician quickly available who could diagnosis it. I'd rather start her on the meds and see if that handles it. If the temp goes way up tomorrow then I'll take it to a doc. I've heard horror stories of patients being put into quarantine over a slight case and then almost dying because the docs didn't know quite the right protecol.

Anyway, she's feeling pretty depressed right now. I'm heading upstairs w/ a Tom Selleck movie for us to watch together. I'll give an update in several hours.

Guennie, before I go, I am so excited w/ all the wondeerful newes of Jen ande Emily. What a wonderful gift. She sounds beautiful.

Winds were so bad that this morning on our way back from Mass we saw all these shopping carts blown into the ditch.

It looked like an escape that had been foiled by the wind. It was hilarious.

Still windy, and am thankful for the nice warm fire, and home.... Brrrrr......

I was not happy with the first half of the Packer game. They did not look good, but I also thought the officials had a terrible game, calling some really questionable calls, and then not calling others.

Packers finally rallied though.

RE: White House Christmas - wasn't that gorgeous? I loved the snow filled trees with the crystal, gold and silver ornaments. Very classy which reflects Laura's taste perfectly.

It was so windy and cold here today and the temp is now down to 17 here where I live. I'm glad I didn't have to drive on an open road as you did.Just walking from my car to the grocery store the wind went right through my winter jacket - brrr..

Oh, Jem.. I hope that all works out okay with girlchild.. I am about to crawl under my quilt & will surely be talking with God about her as I doze off..

I asked about the soup as my mom LOVE mushroom soup (I dont eat them at all, in any form.) I am a lousy vegetarian. Dont eat mushrooms or asparagus or rhubarb and avoid Greens. (the southern cooked in bacon Greens).

But I do buy mushrooms & fix them for her. (on salad, on burgers & in various sauces & casseroles) I have never made mushroom soup. If you would share the recipe sometime, I would appreciate it.

Night all... oh, an surprise.. the Browns lost.

Yes. The White House Christmas was GREAT! I like the Sugared Fruit, too. But those Snow Trees were definitely the best. It's always good to see fake snow. That means there's a lack of the real stuff.

Since I'm still up, I'll put the coffee pot on ... and check the pantry to see if I can find some grits.

….. ..........

And here is a comment and picture I just came across on another thread:

On a "rare gem in the NFL" note - did anyone else see what NO Saint Joe Horn did after his touchdown today?

There was a banner in the end zone with "Support Our Troops"; he underlined each word with his finger, then "hugged" the banner.

I thought it was about the classiest celebration I'd seen.
