DESIGN 2004 - 25 Best Products of the Year:
Electronics: iMac G5

An engineering marvel, the new iMac tucks the computer and speakers inside the expansive flat-panel display—"an advance as welcome as the day that VCR/DVD players were encased in the TV monitor box," says Thompson. Built-in wireless technology lets you use a cable-free keyboard and mouse.

I find Apple's designs lacking on their own merits, without needing to compare them to others to arrive at that conclusion. They may be the prettiest cow pies in the pasture, but in the end, they're still s***.

I really really really want one.

But I'll have to make do with my 3 year old G4 a few more years....

I still use two Pentium II computers as my "frontline" computers, the Gateway tower which is a 266 MHz (1998) and this laptop, a 366 MHz (1999). So far, they do my work although I can't run the new games, then again, I only do Diablo I and II and reserve my Playstation for the rest. B-)

We are still using our other ancient Mac.
A 6100. 66MHz.
Still gets us by when 2 of us have to use the internet.
But just barely.

DANG! I just threw away a couple of 210 MHz G3 accelerators for the 6100.

You should be able to find one fairly cheap on eBay. It will really help.

Yes in *your* opinion. I find the new design rather nice, it has an amazingly small footprint keeps the need for cables to a minimum and provides a good size screen. Aesthetically its very minimalist but that is, what I think, they were going for. If I was in the market for a computer it would be either one of these imac's of if I want to get spendy the duel titanium..

Well, obviously. You may think they're nice, but of course that's *your* opinion ;)

What do you call a post like "I find Apple's designs lacking on their own merits, without needing to compare them to others to arrive at that conclusion. They may be the prettiest cow pies in the pasture, but in the end, they're still s***.

clueless!

LOL - so anyone who doesn't agree with your personal aesthetic judgements is "clueless", eh? Must be tough being the only person on the planet who isn't clueless ;)

I was commenting on your post. You seem to be the only one that doesn't see the aesthetic and/or utilitrian value in Macs! Ergo, you seem to be without a clue...

It isn't about me, it's just your negativity toward a fine product, of which you are obviously jealous! Go on back and tweak your Windows machine... that'll keep you busy

G5 bump!

I bought 3000 shares of Apple at $13.38, last spring (1 1/2 yrs)... It traded for $65.15 as of Friday afternoon. I will continue to drink the koolaid! I guess a lot of us are...

(ps- Did someone steal your cookies?)

So the stock price is a measure of aesthetic value, eh? Andres Serrano once dunked a crucifix in a jar of urine, snapped a picture of it, and called it "Piss Christ". Wanna guess how much it sold for at auction?

Why are you so agitated that someone might not agree with you? Does it really bother you that much that there's someone out there who doesn't think the iMac is the most beautiful thing since Helen of Troy? Why do you need other people to validate your choices by agreeing with you?

You should ad to your ping announcment:

"Macs suck."

There, I said it for you, now you can go to another post.

Why are you so agitated that someone might not agree with you?

You decided you needed to piss on someone's parade, and I just greeted you accordingly.

You have no taste, or no clue. The world, at large, disagrees with you.

Stock price has nothing to do with aesthetics (but it does indicate market approval), but then, aesthetics is a personal thing, like modern art. I deplore the urine soaked idolatry. I also find it equally sad that you, and the guy who stated "Mac sucks" to Swordmaker in post #33, would waste your time on us Mac users, and those who wish to be. You are so obviously bothered by someone's good news... that you stoop to low rhetoric! Maybe you ought to reassess your postings, or simply ignore the threads on which you feel you must piss!!!!

We aren't dogs, and there are no hydrants!

The world, at large, disagrees with you.

"The world" consists of the 3% of computer buyers who buy Macs? That's a rather crabbed view of "the world", don't you think? No wonder you're so agitated by disagreement - you must not get much there in the echo chamber.

I suppose you only post on threads where you agree with the viewpoint of the article poster, eh? Wouldn't want to think of you running around and pissing on someone else's parade - that would be positively hypocritical of you.

...aesthetics is a personal thing, like modern art.

Exactly, so why is it so hard for you to accept that not everyone agrees, and just move on? I express my opinion, you disagree, we get on with our lives - why make it personal? Why are you taking my disagreement as a personal assault on you? Did you design it or something?

LOL. Who cares what Fortune thinks? This is the same Fortune magazine that produced this little gem - hope you didn't take a job or buy stock based on the insights of Fortune magazine.

Maybe you would prefer another source...

PC Magazine (Not MacUser)...

Apple has another design coup on its hands with the Apple iMac G5. Its clean, simple look—imagine if an iPod grew into a full-size, self-contained PC—exclaims, "It's about time they designed a computer like this."

...or maybe...

MIKE WENDLAND: Stunning iMac G5 is a marvel on the inside, too

October 5, 2004

BY MIKE WENDLAND DETROIT FREE PRESS COLUMNIST

I'm a little late with this review of the new G5 iMac from Apple. It's been out nearly a month now, and I've dragged my feet in writing this. That's because the evaluation unit I've been testing has to be returned when the review is printed.

Sigh. This new iMac is so elegant, so efficient and so enjoyable to use that I've wanted to hold on to it for as long as possible.

The new G5 iMac is the finest personal computer I've ever used, hands down. Nothing comes close. If you have ever thought of switching from a Windows-based PC to a Mac, this is the deal-clincher. It is simply a stunning machine both to look at and to use.

...there are many more reviews like these out there... but, you probably can't hear them with your hands over your ears!

LOL. Lots of people like Macs. I just happen to not be one of them. Why is it so difficult for you to accept that? Why do you need my approval?

Your post which prompted my reply...

You stated they were pretty, then reversed yourself, by comparing them... you said they were not aesthetically pleasing... but had already said they were "pretty". Ergo, I found you clueless, not lacking my approval!

You kept coming back for more... I gladly state the obvious!
