If some brain dead PC liberal called a Christmas tree a Holiday tree in front of me I would have to call them holiday fruit cake.
Here is a link to Tony Snow on Kwanza

I worked in a Christmas tree lot one year for extra money. As people left with their tree, I would wish them a merry Christmas. Boss told me to say happy holidays instead because some customers may not be Christian and merry Christmas would offend them. I informed him that if they were buying a Christmas tree, then they celebrated Christmas so Merry Christmas was appropriate. He stood there dumbfounded and I quit and walked away.</p>
You do know that Christmas trees historically had nothing to do with Christmas right?
They were part of Yule (solstice) celebrations. Decorating trees is one of the traditions that Christians incorportated into their holiday as they conquered ancient civilizations.
I'm no fan of PC. Believe me. But I don't let myself get worked up about the little things anymore. There is too much at stake. My household just is not affected by what the Yule tree is called in blue states.
That's a great response!
All of the December holidays are Holy Days to their respective religions. Your response respects Christians, Jews, and anyone celebrating Kwanza (don't know how to spell that one).
That's very tolerant of you.
This info. shows up on every thread about Christmas. Was there REALLY a world before Christ? REALLY? That's amazing. You really think everyone is so dumb not to know that? Obviously, you had to post it.
um, it's a yule tree actually.
Decorating trees is an old yule tradition...part of celebrating nature during the winter solstice.
how does acknowleging and respecting the fact that December contains holidays from non-christian religions (such as Judaism for example) take Christ out of Christmas?
Sorry, I just don't see it. I've never understood how being open minded, inclusive, and welcoming takes anything away from me and mine.
wow, that's great. Thanks for posting this! I learned something new today.
Exactly, by all means, if you know the person is a Christian, wish them a Merry Christmas, but if you don't know that person's affiliation, just go with the generic Happy Holidays, it just makes sense.
But if you asked me that, I would respond:
Happy Hanukkah.
Why is "happy" despised? ;-)
Um, already been done.
I once bought a menorah called something like that. Sorry I can't remember the exact wording but menorah was nowhere to be found.
Religions who have decorated trees in December:
Judaism (yes, many American Jews have "Hannukah bushes")
Pagan/wiccan/earth based religions (yule trees--the true origin of the Christmas tree)
It is not the stores necessarily. It is the producers abroad (china) who barely speak engrish.
Well said!
"Generally, when something nice happens, it's a person who has done a nice thing. I like to thank the person who did the nice thing.
If the sun shines in the Winter here in the Twin Cities, though, it's the weather. It happens. It's a nice thing that nobody did. Nobody to thank. I just enjoy the sunshine."
Just out of curiosity how do you come to explain your existance? Surely you don't subscribe to the spec of cosmic dust that exploded with a big bang and caused all of this? That always cracks me up...
"Judaism (yes, many American Jews have "Hannukah bushes")"
A bush is not the same a a spruce or pine TREE
Do pagan/wiccan/earth based religions use pine/spruce trees, if so, well excuse me for assuming that for the last billion years christians were the only ones using Christmas Trees.
