Fox News reporting how Christmas Trees have now become PC. Now Called Holiday Trees
Fox News

If some brain dead PC liberal called a Christmas tree a Holiday tree in front of me I would have to call them holiday fruit cake.

"Just out of curiosity how do you come to explain your existance? Surely you don't subscribe to the spec of cosmic dust that exploded with a big bang and caused all of this? That always cracks me up...
"

Gosh, I don't have to go back that far. As I understand it, sometime around Halloween in 1944, my parents got frisky (not something I dwell on). Nine months later, I emerged, probably bawling my head off. It's really simple. I'm thankful to my parents for having created me and for putting up with me, now, for 59 years (the first 18 were the worst, because I lived with them.)

ok, um, semantics lesson:

Hanukkah "bush" is a joke term for tree. They use trees.

Now, history lesson:

Christianity is less than 2,000 years old. Not billions. The only religion that could claim to be billions of years old is paganism.

The tree you think belongs to Christmas is a Yule tree borrowed from pagans in Europe. Seriously. Try reading some history. It's not secret or forbidden knowledge.

Finally, yes, they use pine or spruce trees...those are the only green trees in December unless you live in the tropics.

Well, the trees were originally a pagan symbol.

But that symbolism ended when Europe was Christianized by about 1000 A.D.

I don't think the tree in Christmas re-appeared until some time well after that date. But by then it had assumed its use as a "Christmas" Tree and was generally recognized as such until relatively recently.

Its true that many non-Christians celebrate Christmas in a secular way and they may also put up a tree, but referring to it as a "Holiday" tree when the majority of people use it as a Christmas tree appears to be stretching political correctness.

A Menorah is a Menorah, not a "Holiday Candlestick". A Christmas Tree is a Christmas Tree, not a "Holiday Tree".

Religions who have decorated trees in December:...Judaism (yes, many American Jews have "Hannukah bushes")...Pagan/wiccan/earth based religions (yule trees--the true origin of the Christmas tree)

There's no Jewish tradition based on decorating trees or bushes in December. Maybe Pagans do it, I don't know any pagans. Just about everyone I know who decorates a tree in december does it for Christmas, not even New Years, which I suppose is why they're called Christmas Trees.

They're called Christmas trees because Christians in Europe conquered the pagan religions there and then incorporated pagan rituals and symbols into the Christian religion, renaming and claiming them as Christian.

Not to be picky, but the outside date for humans on this planet is about 4.5 million years, and that's the outside. I doubt if your exaggeration will hold water.

Right, Christian, unrelated to Chanukah.

For those of you who are outraged about this, you do realize that most Christian holiday traditions are rooted in pagan rituals and were adopted by the church and given different trappings to make them palatable to Christianity?

There was a world before Christ and a good portion of our laws, history, culture and traditions have some root in that time period.

Irrelevent.

Christians have chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25 for centuries. In the past decade, merchants have attempted to calm the infantile and easily perturbed sensibilities of a non-existent minority which is horribly incensed by the word "Christmas" and yet wishes to celebrate the "holiday season" in exactly the same way--the only difference being that the word "Christmas" is expunged from all activities.

We have had enough of that PC crap. That is the point.

If the Good Lord saw us and the way we worship these trees, he wouldn't set the trees on fire, like the ancient Germanics did, he would set us on fire.

I'm pretty sure He's seen it every year.

as journalists they should be aware of the trees origins and realize that it's not a Christmas exclusive symbol

Only for the past 1000 years.

And in the USA, fir trees are put into homes, covered with lights and decorated with ornaments in December for ONE holiday--the holiday that dare not speak it's name.

I think you're missing the point of the hannukah reference.

Not sure if that's accidental or on purpose.

my "exaggeration" was a repitition of the previous post's exaggeration. Not my own belief. I'm well aware of how long we've been on the planet.

Hey! Are you disparaging my weight?!? ;-)

Really, I'm pretty lightened up already...the poster who is hung up on Christmas vs. Holiday trees is the heavy one.
