A Time for Thanksgiving - Sharing Emails between two Friends (Military Wife)(kinda long)
email letters

Posted on 11/28/2004 8:23:29 AM PST by Smarti Pants

This is an actual email exchange:

Hey there, Anglia,

I can't explain it all fully - but I'll try. Aside from the fact that I genuinely enjoy our chats and our friendship, I feel (and many others feel this way too, you should know!) like I owe you & your family & husband (and others like you) an incredible debt that will be so hard to ever repay.

There is a tremendous amount of sacrifice you are doing in sending your husband to take care of this great country of ours. You share the man you love and married with millions of people who don't even know his name - people who don't even know that you exist. And I'm sure it's very hard on you as a wife, as a mother, as a woman.

Let me tell you right now - this has NOT gone un-noticed by a great number of us out here and there just aren't enough words to tell you how grateful we are to you for what you do. Yeah, I know it's your hubby "doing the work" and you have little choice in the matter - but you are bringing up the rear by taking care of his children, by being his soul (and sole) supporter and you are sacrificing your own needs for the sake of our country.

Your husband, and those with whom he serves, are out there taking care of this country - true - but they're also watching over me, my family and my home every bit as much as they're doing it for their own family & home. And there you are, your kids too, supporting him and loving him while he does this. I get tremendously teary just thinking about it. You just can't ever know just how much it means to me on the deepest of most profound personal levels.

This is such an ohhhhhh sooooooooo small thing to do to help you out - you're there when our country needs it the most - it's the very least of things I can do when you're in need. You are every bit as much of a hero in my eyes as is your husband. Your kids are heros too, and you can let them know that people out here are thinking that way about you all and are sending you prayers, love and gratitude, without even knowing who you are.

I know what the media would like you to believe and I hope that you can look beyond their neglect & bias & realize that many people feel exactly as I do - waiting for the chance to send on a blessing to someone like you & your husband & kids if and when the opportunity comes up. It's our way to say THANK YOU - probably something you don't even look for or expect, but believe it - we are grateful.

I am grateful beyond words.

So you see, I can't do a whole lot from my end of things, but if and when I think I can do something to help out someone such as you - I will be there to stand in the gap. It's the very least I can do.

I'm going to quit this email now - as I said, I get all teary when I think about this sort of thing. Can't help it, I'm such a sap - but every word of what's in this email is true ten-fold.

I thank God for you.

Her Response

Good morning, Smarti Pants:

I am at a terrible loss for words and also crying at the same time. I cannot tell you how much it means to me for you to have said what you have in this email. I have a terrible time sometimes because I do feel like I am alone in this "military life." Like sometimes fighting a losing battle with people who just don't get it. I just cannot tell you how much it means to me.

My husband and I both are very grateful for the words and the thoughts and the loving support that you have. It is hard sometimes and yes it seems that there are more people against us than for us. It is also during those times when we get down that people like you come along and we get a little more fight in us to go on and say "yes people out there do understand that the military is just not evil people who just want to take to take and they are fighting for our freedom." I just wished that I had the words in my head to say how much I appreciate you and how much it means. Well I am just not good with words. So, please accept my thanks from the bottom of mine and my husband's heart. I thank you for taking your time to do this for me.

I would also appreciate you sending a BIG THANK YOU to the others who are out there that are trying their best to help me also and their kind words. It is things like this that make the battle out there seem a little more tolerable and that we are not up against the world. I, too, enjoy our friendship and our chats. I hope that you understand how much that means to me.

When my husband made it back this September he came through Maine and he was quite shocked when he got off the plane and there was just a lobby full of Vets there clapping, hugging and offering support for them. There were children handing them apples as they got off the plane. The Vets also gave them all cell phones so they could call home. These people and people like you always bring tears to my husband's eyes and too

Sometimes it feels to him that people just don't understand what they are doing and what freedoms it allows them to keep. Well anyway to make this story short, HE ALSO THANKS YOU!

Well, again, I just wished I had the words to say what I wanted, but again just not really good with words. But I appreciate you as a friend more than you will ever know. Thank you for your support as well for my husband and the military.

Just a little side note here - I will be checking and posting my resumes to the suggestions that were sent to you, may be, just maybe one of those will work out. Again, please thank everyone for me and tell them how grateful I am to them........

Have a wonderful day and may God Bless You!

Anglia

She asked me to thank all of you who believe as I do.

So I thought I'd share these emails - they're from and for you too, I'm sure.

God Bless the United States, our President George W. Bush, The United States Military men and women and their families and all the people willing to stand in the gap for our military folk.

Thanks for letting me share.

I have no words that can express just how proud and gratful I am for what these fine young (and not so young) men and women are doing. I can say THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS, and really mean it, but somehow it just doesn't quite get to the heart of it.

At any rate THANK YOU!!!
And tell your friends husband to BE CAREFUL! If he gets hurt I will NOT be happy...and he doesn't want that...trust me. :-)
