I HOPE THIS HELPS ALL OF YOU. I use AD AWARE. I run it at least once a day sometimes twice. Every day it finds and cleans out 7 to 9 tracking programs placed into my system by the internet vendors I visit. These are not (usually) hostile programs but they do accumulate and slow down your computer with what is called "overhead". As happened to me, the overhead can get so bad your computer slows to a standstill and you cannot even move information to the printer. Then a friend told me about Ad Aware by LAVASOFT. It worked immediately and my system was dramatically restored to its previous blazing speed. Retailers hate Ad Aware because they want the tracking programs in your computer to tell them your consumer behavior. While it is a priivacy issue, it is currently legal to track your consumer behavior. The problem is the burden on your computer. HOPE THIS HELPS.

A friend's machine was doing that.
I did the Ctrl-alt-del salute to bring up the close program dialog while the machine was booting, and shutdown programs manually to the bare minimum required to operate.
I then ran Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot.
Repeatedly.
Before I diod that, literally her machine would boot and then have the 'hundred thousand pop-up' thing happen.
Now it will run and not try to call Zambia.

Yes, Drudge's site loads you up with spyware. You almost cannot prevent it. That is why I run Ad Aware at least twice a day - one day I was hit with 19 tracking programs which I erased easily using the Ad Aware software.

She isn't starting a rumor. She has spyware on her computer and thought it might be from FR.
To: Darksheare
Not to promote FoxFire but since I have downloaded it I have had no trouble with popups and very little with spyware.

Spybot is free, as is AdAware. AdAware, NOT Adware. Ad Aware removes Ad Ware.

I agree, I've never gotten anything un-toward from FR, and I use the basics, IE, OE, Win98...
Get a firewall I use "Zone-alarm" it's free from www.zonelabs.com, get a spy ware filter/eradicator I use "Webroot - Spy Sweeper" I got it free from www.tucows.com, increase your browser's security, make sites ask to allow cookies. I've never seen the problems you're encountering.
