Georgia State Flag
Free Republic State of Georgia ^ | November 5, 2004 | Broker

Change the Flag Graphic on the Free Republic Georgia discussion site? For the benefit of FR administrator, replys and comments are requested on this subject. The old "Stars & Bars" flag is the FR default flag. A flag which is no longer the State Flag. The new flag was approved this year by Georgia voters. Let FR administators act on our discussion.

The new Flag is a new symbol of Georgian unity. I is my opinion we should honor it on FR Georgia.

Didn't the GOP governor of GA promise during the campaign 2 yrs ago to let the people vote on keeping the old flag? And didn't he then promptly break that promise?

The idea that there is only one valid view about the confederate battle flag -- as being an absolute symbol of slavery, racism, and white supremacy -- is a canard, a leftwing myth, a PC piece of garbage...

You may be totally correct. The Stars and Bar is a symbol of our heritage. Everyone reads it differently. However, it is not the Flag for the State of Georgia today.

Keep the 1956 Georgia flag. Maybe Nolu Chan will post Ann Coulter's comments on the flag for us here. That flag recognizes the brave soldiers that defended their country, that only desired self-government and freedom from tyranny.

I say change.

While Sonny didn't carry through on his promise on the flag vote, I have no problem with the current flag. It is actually should be more insulting to the politically correct crowd than the 1956 flag (pointing out that they were too stupid to see it as a Confederate image), and it is based upon the traditional Georgia flags, but with greater fidelity to the First National:

See the 1879 flag: http://www.sos.state.ga.us/museum/html/georgia_state_flag_1879_1902.htm

the 1906 flag:

the 1920 flag:

and the 1902 flag:

the STARS & BARS is the NEW flag of GA. it is VERY SIMILAR to the battleflag designed FIRST for GA troops in 1861 by William Porcher Miles. 5 feet away, you cannot tell his flag &n the one designed by the PC-GA legislature apart.

the REAL Georgia FLAG (post 1956) is the Confederate BATTLEFLAG design, which was ALSO designed by William Porcher Miles in 1861 & was carried HONORABLY into battle by GA troops.

of course, the average legislator is TOO IGNORANT of their state's history to know such a TRUTH.

Thanks for the ping. I live in WA, not GA, so I'm not going to voice a preference. But I noticed, when I clicked through to the GA message board that there were two flags flying.

Could y'all make everybody equally unhappy by flying one of each? *\;-)

Good Lord. If we can't escape the PC gestapo goon squad on Free Republic, where can we escape it? Surely whoever suggested this change could not be serious, and was just trying to provoke a good argument. If they were serious, then I suggest they try moveon.org. There is a lot of good PC stuff over there, and I'm sure their little PC suggestions will be welcomed. I have no doubt that the good folks at FR will have the courage to stand up to the tyrannical forces of PC. Unlike the scalawag politicians.

Keep the '56 flag.

As a very conservative GA freeper who values consistency, I say we fly the official flag of each state.

Let the chips fall where they may.

Change the flag to current one. It is, by far, the best looking of all GA flags!

I'm not a Georgian but I think we learned 2 days ago that most Americans are tired of political correctness in this ongoing culture war.

FR can fly both flags and let each freeper choose their own.

I hate caving to PC stuff and the author of this thread makes it clear that his/her view is not based on consistency but something platitudinal about the Georgia of today.

No matter how we win, there is always somewhere the need to be self righteous about race....it feeds both sides.

Blacks get to claim victimhood and guilty whites can claim virtue.

I'm sick of it. If it's not clear to any fool by now who keeps this nation from falling into the pc cesspool permanently then they will never "get it".

Weakness...incredible.

The new Flag is a new symbol of Georgian unity.

No, it is a symbol of the massive cave-in to the race hustlers.

We can't...they are here like flies on a cowpie....and they seem to have learned nothing from the culture war KABOOM!!!!!!! just three days ago. However....JR and the Kali gang are smart enough to know that while we Southrons may be eccentric and a bit regionally chauvinistic that we are an incredibly dependable and so they indulge us even though they probably have a hard time really getting what we all know in our blood. I thank them for that. This poster has floated this before. I have a feeling there is a demographic bias here...I confess mine. I'm a 46 year old white southern male of the Led Zeppelin/Lynyrd Skyrnyrd/Allman Bros generation and I don't feel the need to apologize or bow down to anyone whether they are offended or not. And I'm proud that in my homestate of Mississippi that folks knew better including 40% of the minority. Georgians should have been given the right to vote on the old flag as promised.

I want to roll back PC victories of the past generation...not cave to them now...especially here.

Amen Wardaddy! I know this has been posted before many many many times, but there seems to be no discontent among those you mention about the American flag... under which many a slave was sold and under which the KKK marched on Washington. Yet these same people (if they are indeed conservatives) were undoubtedly high-fiving each other as the South voted wholesale for George W. Bush. Make no mistake about it, the South has become the predominant political force in this country. If it weren't for a few populous jurisdictions, my state of Maryland would be joining the red.
