Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
I'm here... sorting clothes and food and other somewhat domestic tasks.
OK... while I'd not do the cold shower, I have done the thing where you soak in a hot tub and then jump in a cold lake. Felt great. But that was many moons ago.
I dunno if I'd try that today. Sounds like a coronary-inducement now. :-)
Heh, yes, I can imagine that could be a problem. At my age, if my heart's gonna give out from something like that I'd just rather die.
I am no good for anything tonight. Good thing I got ahead on writing.
It's Tuesday. Two weeks since the victory.
Has it sunk in yet?
Unfortunately, we have no time to goof off. The "insurgents" in the Blue Territories are sniping...
Condi as SecState is an enormously good idea, IMO...hugh, even.
Now for coffee and a plan for the day (yeah...part of the plan is get out and go to work)...
Laters, y'all...
Work has me bummed. My current "customers" are very unsavory fellas - rude, demanding, and convinced we don't know our business and won't deliver on time. *sigh* Then when I deliver on time... time after time ... I get no thanks. :(
But on a happier note. I got the garden all winterized. It was a wonderful garden - very good for the soul. (Thanks 2J!).
And we're getting organized for the holidays. I have over half of my Christmas shopping finished. And most of my decorations have been hauled out of the basement. They're getting supplemented with some new acquisitions - like the new 9-ft tree I bought on sale in Aug. Hopefully I can avoid stress by planning ahead. (yeah right!)
Nahh...they're just suffering from Post Election Stress Trauma. Snicker, snicker, snicker. Gloat, gloat, gloat.
Lewis' space trilogy is one of my very favorite works of fiction. I reread all of them pretty frequently. I'm not sure I have a favorite among the books...they're so different. The first one is almost a little goofy, and appeals to me partly because of the language that's introduced...kinda gotta wonder if Tolkien had any influence there! Perelandra is perhaps the most poignant...beautiful and rather sad. The last one scared the crap out of me the first time I read it as a teenager...
All good! ;-)
Ya...virtual goats are far less messy.
I am so not awake this morning. Ugh.
~sip~~sip~~sip~~sip~
Honestly, if I were ever to attempt to write science fiction in a serious way, I wish I could write something more like the Space Trilogy - something that goes beyond science. Really, there's far more symbolism than science in his books, and I'm a sucker for symbolism...
Good morning!
It's bill paying day...and I'm happy to say I got it all done and just needs to be mailed. Usually a very distressing thing for me, but Steve can't do it...he has too much else going on.
Ah well, I just worked on it a little at a time and got it done.
Good morning.
ecurbh and I are out out to breakfast. Back in a little while!
I think you mean
"Ecurbh and I are out [of breakfast items so we are] out to breakfast."
;-)
Smart aleck.... We have pancake mix and eggs, but sometimes it's really good to have them made for you!
LOL!!! I love it!
Heheh...Steve calls me a "wise acre". Must be a Minnesota thing...
And no dishes or clean-up to do!
That's my favorite part...
We hates her preciousssss, yessss we doesss....
Mornin'
Fitness Dwarf made it to the gym, but he didn't wanna. Also, he got there and realized what he'd left at home...just suggest you stay upwind for the day.
Wife and I are beginning to realize it's Nana's Monday morning terrorpist that is causing a lot of the problems. Wife said last night if the woman came every day "she'd make Mom an invalid." She is essentially telling Nana everything she can't do, which contradicts what the doctor is saying.
Last night we came home and there was a two page handwritten note to the wife and I quote "you need to do these things so your Mom won't break her hip again."
1) Nana never "broke" her hip to begin with.
2) Never try to intimidate a G.R.I.T.S.
Sorry, I'm ranting again. And it's not like we won't (and haven't already) make the accommodations Nana needs. But the terrorpist's job is to make her independent not more dependent.
Hmmmm....The C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy...sounds like Thanksgiving weekend reading, it's been a while.
~snif~
Yer makin' me homesick.
Good morning!
I got rid of Becky's physical therapist because she basically charged an arm and a leg to take her outside and kick a ball. *rolls eyes* Even ~I~ can do that!
Drinking some really good coffee one of the fellas here at work brought from home. I feel almost human.
