The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh, continue to read to Erin! Clare is 16 1/2 and Joseph is 14 1/2 and we still read to them every night. Sometimes Joseph will beg off if we've left it too late and he needs to get to sleep since he's back in school, but we try to get it done. We re-read the "Wrinkle in Time" trilogy during the summer, and just recently finished reading "Sum of All Fears", suitably edited, of course. ;o)

We just began C. S. Lewis's Space Trilogy, which I have never read, so this is fun reading something entirely new! If you read something that's just beyond their range when they're young, it helps them develop great vocabulary skills, if you explain the new words as you go along.

(((Ramius)))

Are you finally back home or does Greta plan on holding you hostage now that the Peterson trial is over? ;-D

Plus, I have all those years of drama instruction...might as well put it to use. I love to paint a verbal picture and see my kids' eyes wide while listening. LOL I suppose I am a bit on the dramatic side.

ROTFL!! You need to read the Redwall books to the boys!! Suitably bloodthirsty for boys, but some gentle characters also. Each type of animal has it's own 'voice' and I'd bet you'd have a blast doing them!!

At Black Point?
I may be out of town, but otherwise will be there.

Happy about the cooler weather.

IMHO, of the Space trilogy, the first 2 are sort of nice, but the 3rd is very damn good.

I haven't read it in awhile, but it made a big impression on me. It's sitting in my bookcase, maybe I'll get it out and give it a reread and see if I still think so well of it after all these years.

JenB, have you read these books?

Yup. Black Point's the place! :)

If you can make it, I'd be pleased as punch to see you the Mrs again. Trini plans on coming too!

Safe and sound and far away from poor, forlorn Greta. What will she ever talk about now? *grin*

Here's hoping your next trip to the Bay is a long time from now!

So....I take it this means the evil auditors have finally left the building?

Sam, this set is like my old set of the Tolkien Trilogy; three paperbacks in a cardboard slipcase. It was printed in 1975, and I don't think SSQ has read it but once since then. The book is literally falling apart as I turn the pages!! I'm going to check to see if the library has any large print versions of it. That paperback print is just TOO SMALL!! ;o)

They've left the building but they're still infesting my email box and my phone. The good news is that the followup questions I've had today are utterly predictable and nothing substantial.

Here's to hopin'... [crossing fingers... knocking on wood... sacrificing a goat just for good measure...]

I'll have to try cayenne next year. Steve likes the flavor of his jalapeno flakes more than my hab powder. I'll have to save up a bunch of different jars for different flavor peppers!
