Don't be crazy, you guys did NOT scare off a potential Republican. Having just read this entire thread it was obvious to me from the get-go that this was a TROLL who probably had a group of friends sitting around feeding him lines.

I'm just disappointed that no one brought up Reagan.

Maybe you should have suggested some authors or titles for him to read?

I would have, if he'd asked.

Ok, so have fun telling me "I told you so!" I really did have some hope he was merely a just out of college kid who had been fed all of the liberal bs college can dish out.

I thought if he was approached in a sane and civilized manner, some of his out there thoughts might become challenged and he might start to think for himself instead of parroting LW professor speak.

And who knows! Maybe there were enough of us explaining that he took some things away he can chew on over the next few years.

i totally agree about the dedication and how hard they try - the system is the problem - and the bureaucracy, etc. I do not ever fault many of the teachers (some of them yes). I was a teacher. My brother is currently a teacher. so i empathize

"Why do I get the impression that a lot of people are looking to viciously attack my opinion or refer to me as a troll? It doesn't bother me personally, I've just never experienced it before. I am a sane person, there's no need to think I'm here to troll. I just want to talk politics. "

You've used a number of "buzz words" that touch sore places here.

Guns and gun control is an issue of very great significance here.

You seem to be of the opinion that guns can only be used offensively . Guns are the greatest protection that the people of this country from their government and from the hoards of criminals that infest this and every country.

Read some old threads here. More than one person has defended their life by having a gun and not needing to use it. I am one of them.

There is a reason that the cities with the worst rape and murder statistics come from cities that forbid private carry. There are only 3 kinds of people that live there, predators, victims and the soon to be victims. When you cannot defend yourself then you are a mark.

Read John Lotts Report. Women who don't carry guns are safer because there are women who do.

The rape and murder statistics are dramatically improved in states that have "shall issue" permits as opposed to "may carry" or forbids carry at all.

Those of us here take all the amendments seriously not just the ones we choose to honor.

There wouldn't be any first amendment protection without the 2nd amendment to back it up.

I don't know if you were pretending to act ignorant about the differences in guns but:
Full automatic weapons have been banned since 1934 with the exception of paying a special tax fee , undergoing a background check and ATF clearance.

The assault weapons ban that just expired did nothing but ban "scary looking" weapons and limited clip size to a certain number.

The only difference between a semi-automatic and a revolver is the style of the gun. A revolver is a wheel gun, a cowboy gun. A semi-automatic refers to a spring loaded slip that feeds the bullets up from the bottom. There is a slide that automatically ejects the shell and loads the next round. The only thing that is different is how the bullet gets to the barrel. It is still only one shot for each time the trigger is pulled.

A rifle is a long gun that shoots bullets or slugs, A shot gun has shells that can be loaded with various size pellets and has a wide dispersal pattern.

The bunk you spouted about how many kills per minute only applies to where you are standing in relation to the mass grave with unarmed victims.

In a real life situation you opponent has a gun or a knife or a baseball bat and the goal isn't so much to take their life but to save your own.

If independent5 was legit, he really does need to read some books on different political philosophies. Maybe you should have suggested some authors or titles for him to read?

I was just about to recommend "Economics in One Lesson" by Henry Hazlitt to him when he was removed.

The guy talked about being undecided and independent and pretended not to have political principles, then proceeded to use the principles of socialism as basis for argument, seems disingenuous, yeah.

However, I've come to the conclusion that many "liberals" don't actually have political principles.

What I mean is -- exactly how your income is put back into the economy isn't as important to you. You may impulse buy more often, you may give more arbitrarly decided sums of money to different charities. I mean, you don't have to be nearly as careful with your money because you have enough for yourself. That's just how things play out with human nature. Everyone's primary concern is themself. Once that has been met, how they use their money is very different. I shouldn't have said your money "isn't important" -- I meant your money isn't as important -to you-. You're already covered.

Well, it's easy to tell you are public skewled! and educated in the Berkley tradition!

I see you passed Socialism 101 with and A+

You Fool! My money is my money!

The money I don't "need" at moment, it put into savings for me to support my wife and me in retirement! It will go to college educations for my children!

There is not such thing as money I don't need! I need every penny the government, your idol, doesn't steal from me!
