Hi, I'm an independent and I'm newly zotted.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm an independent so not all of my views are conservative in nature. Am I welcome to post here? Is this is this the appropriate (general/chat) forum to post this in?

They're all acting. They're choosing their user names according to their attitude. If you're a VK or a troll killer you might notice the pattern.

Troll or no, I had fun arguing with him. I would have preferred he be left alone to kill himself in debate.

I'm laid up on Meds and thoroughly enjoying the crunchy sound of crushing trolls.

Why exactly was he banned?
Was there some other "evidence" I'm not aware of?
He didn't sound like a troll to me... He sounded like a college kid who hadn't thought much about politics, except what he'd been spoon-fed by his left-leaning professors...
Assuming I am correct, the treatment he received here probably guarantees he'll NEVER vote republican because, and rightfully given this experience, "They're a bunch of A-holes..."
It seems to me some people on this board have WAY too much time on their hands given they're getting their jollies beating up a dumb kid. That's what I expect from Libs and Paranoid Schizophrenics... Not people trying to advance conservatism...

Wash 'em if you got 'em!! That's all the advice I can give. While wearing rubber gloves, clean your doorknobs, phone, keyboard, mouse, light switches, anything they may have touched. Colds seem to be particularly nasty this season. My hubby has bronchitis, so we're weakened this weekend

I think it's good to give the benefit of the doubt, which is what I did. And, honestly, even if someone's a disruptor, as long as they're polite and engaging the issues I have no problem. Who knows, might make them think.
Having said that, looking back I don't think this guy was honest. He tried to bait me and others into saying Democrats are evil and generally danced around the issues. But he made some points, though, whoever he was.
To: SupplySider
The problem is, discussion is not disruption...
I don't subscribe to the ENTIRE Republican platform... On some issues I'm more Libertarian... On others I'm LESS conservative or even apathetic. I'm still VERY conservative on the whole and vote Republican because its the party that represents the MAJORITY of my beliefs AND has the best chance of winning (and PREVENTING ideas I DONT support from being elected).
Does that make me a troll?
It seems like some people started screaming TROLL, and were more interested in showing off (not you... others) rather than hearing him out and educating him. Its easy for an adult to debate a young person into a corner... That doesn't impress me as either superior or constructive.
To: The Hollywood Conservative
I agree. Even if this fellow is a habitue of DU and bent on a little self-styled subversion, as long as he's debating issues I don't see a problem. And if he were a sincere youth it would indeed be awful to shoot him down.
I guess I could be construed by some to be suspect, too. I've thought for almost a year that Sen. Kerry would win, and, regrettably, I still do.

And if he were a sincere youth it would indeed be awful to shoot him down. Same here. I kind of suspect that he was a troll, but he was far better than most. He was civil, he actually answered questions posed to him, his spelling & grammar were fairly good and he didn't seem to be proceeding from a conservatives = Nazis preconception.

Its easy for an adult to debate a young person into a corner... If he graduated college, he's officially an "adult." Heck, I'm in my twenties, but at least I've got some friggin' fundamental principles by which to evaluate issues. If independent5 was legit, he really does need to read some books on different political philosophies. For instance, it seems like he's never really thought about personal property rights or what the basic purpose of government is.

I just got home and started to read this thread for its entertainment value. (Although indie had been zotted by the time I clicked on my 'puter.) I agreed with you in the very beginning.
He totally outed himself here (actually he had already, but with this statement he placed a target on his chest and committed suicide):
"Another angle to look at this is -- the government could be the most efficient and fair way for you to get money to those who need it."
I almost threw up when I read that.

You know how people always say they spew coffee and soda all over their keyboards.
When I read this exchange:
"But if you want any government services,
I don't
then you need to contribute money to the government.
Liberals always call taxes contributions and spending investment. Bye bye"
I really did spew toothpaste and drool all over my keyboard. No lie. Reading this whole thread has been great entertainment.

There are plenty of people who get to be twenty years old WITHOUT thinking about politics... Hell, there are some who don't wake up their entire lives, which is why only 40% of eligible voters, VOTE...
Just the same, He was causing no harm, no disruption, just sparking discussion, WHICH IS GOOD... The people causing the disruption were the ones who where determined to be the first to "out" him... Seems like a pointless pastime to me (although, I do love those Kittie pictures!) What's the purpose of a DISCUSSION board if we're all just supposed to sit around agreeing with each other and patting each other on the back about how wonderfully informed and correct WE are... Isn't the point to FURTHER the cause?
Personally, I think SCARING OFF a potential future Republican, regardless of how remote the possibility might be, does FAR more damage than the WORST troll ever can... And he certainly WASN'T the WORST... If I was a DUer, I'd get a FR screen-name, pretend to be the biggest right winger of all time, and ATTACK any potential converts the way that kid was attacked, thus GIVING THE RIGHT A BAD NAME... It seems like a much more intelligent way of trolling, but they don't have to, WE DO IT FOR THEM! If the Kid was a fraud, fine... time would tell... He'd eventually get bored and post "F*** BUSH!!!! HAHAHA!" at which point you could "zot" away or he would spend his time to learn why conservative ideas are superior to liberal ones... Otherwise, all he was guilty of was just NOT TOWING the party line as much as some would like... If our ideas are are correct, then being challenged on them shouldn't scare us... I can defend my positions without needing the other party to have his tongue cut off (banned) to out argue him...

Maybe you should have suggested some authors or titles for him to read?
