"October Surprise" from the NY Times
10/17/04 | vanity

Just read something on the CNN site: The New York Times is about to release a story alleging "routine mis-treatment" of detainees at Guantanamo: claiming they are stripped, herded into freezingly cold air conditioned cells, then subjected to strobe lights and ear-shattering rock music.

They are quoting "un-named sources, formerly attached to the facility."

Guess the gurus at the Times, who,to no one's surprise, have endorsed Kerry ( Phew ! How's THAT for a run-on sentence !),want to imitate the Washington Post and spring an "October surprise" on the Administration.

Considering the effect of the Abu Ghraib disclosures,I would suggest we all skip over the "they deserved it" comments-(Yes. They very likely deserved ANYTHING done to them !)-and launch our own Blogger's Inquiry.

Anybody with direct personal knowledge of conditions at Guantanamo, please step up !

I suspected that MSM would try one more round of Abu Ghraib abuse revelations in the next 2 weeks, too.

That's about all they have left--

GWB's NG has gone 3 rounds this election cycle.
Abu Ghraib was kept on the front pages for 2 months.

Who is the NYT endorsing? Do you really need 3 guesses?

This is it? This is all they've got? I wouldn't worry about it. Does anyone seriously believe that any American really cares about those detainees? I don't think so.

If there were serious abuses, like REAL torture, or murder, or something actually series going on, that might be a story. This is all BS, putting panties on someone's head is not torture. I truly think all these "US POW TORTURE" stories only have legs and/or resonence in the liberal media. I sincerely doubt that any of these stories influenced anyone's vote.

If there are no pictures nobody will care. Also, this is too lame to be called "mistreatment". It sounds like Woodstock.

I feel like Theoden at Helm's Deep on this one.

"That's it. Is this all that you can conjure up, Saruman?"

Only, in this case, that is all that our devious little wizards at the Times can conjure up.

Still, you just know the Times editors are all sitting around doing lines and sporting stiffies, whilst dreaming of "All the President's Men" and Pulitzer Prizes.

Exactly..god forbid they have cold air conditioned cells when it is 105 degrees outside. Some mistreatment I tell ya'.

American prisons routinely strip prisoners naked if they get a tip that someone is hiding something like a weapon or contraband.

And how many Gitmo detainees that have been released have gone back to their old terrorist ways? There was the one guy very recently who kidnapped some Chinese workers in Pakistan...

Sounds like a good Saturday night on the town. Where is this nightclub?

Well, it is October....

Personally, I'd have stuck a few of the more promiminent Illegal Combatants in a deserted ammo bunker. Far away from anywhere.

Get them strung out long and hard for a month on medium grade smack.

Let them shoot themselves up if they wish after two weeks. If they die accidentally. They did it to themselves.

Then STOP!

Watch and wait and turn on the recorders! As any and all would answer questions. Sell their mothers. And do whatever was aked for another fix.

Yes, some of the information would be Overcome By Events. But most of it would be viable and useful.

Jack.

To be perfectly accurate, I Sherman proclaimed his desire to hang reporters. I don't believe he actually did it.
