The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sexual tension, girlfriend. You really should watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ... the tension between Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun Fat, the paths they did not take and wished they had ... ah, and the scene in the forest ...! Great romance there!

It's not that they're holding hands ... it's how they're holding hands. Does his hand tremble around hers, just a little? Does he rub the flat of his palm, rough and workworn, against her skin with awkward care?

There's all kinds of romance!

Maybe I'll get someone else to fill in those bits. Heh, just kidding; I do keep working on it... however the reason all of my couples fight like mad is that it's the easiest way I can write scenes between them. And usually I can get carried away and write at least a bit of a tender making-up scene afterwards.

Subconsciously I'm still writing "stories I would expect my mother to read". And then of course she goes and reads things like, say, "Good Omens" and throws me totally off, but that's beside the point.

Sexual tension, girlfriend.

It's just just a step to left... and a jump to the right... put yer hand on yer hips... and bring yer knees in tight...

Oh, Master Sea-man, I'm deadly with a keyboard and a notion!

<grin> I like hands. In my science fiction masterpiece, the main heroine works in a artificially silent environment, and communicates with an intricate hand language; the main hero has distinctive hands. In the thing I'm writing now, one of the heroes is a renowned chef, and the palms of his hands are scarred and rough, from routinely touching hot surfaces and slips of the knife. His hands are mentioned ...

Hands are good. I see wherefrom you therearefor.

Got one that starts: "His nails... ever chewed and eschewed into the nubs of substance that remained of policy believed but yet unpublished..."

Or something like that... :-)

Have a short entitled "Coastwise" that I've never finished. Really bugs me.

Finish it!

Trust me, I've been chivvied into writing two short stories (that doubled in size the other day) and a 25K-word novella about office shenanigans. For money, no less. <aghast!> I'm amazed that people like my scribbling.

And, you know, the military thing is very big nowadays ...!

And the ego-boo is worth millions!

Not fair to ride those poor democrats!

It's been a while since I've been on. It took 14 US soldiers and four Iraqi national Guard to catch 2 donkeys. We were in mid trip and had a few hours to kill so we had a democrat rodeo. They ran from the Iraqi soldiers, so they must be hard core dems.

As far as coming home we are scheduled to be at Ft. Lewis around the 15th give or take a few days. All is subject to change.

I want to know who the guy with the AKM behind the donkey is

Those would be the IRaqi National Guard. They helped us catch the dems. Actually they kick them in their hind end to make them go, and pull their mane to make them stop. Someone has to. They also gave us a lesson in the works and care of the AK-47. We had a good time with them, especially the Democrat rodeo. Boredom has a way of creating new activities.

Mine is a travelogue of thirteen planets, with a minimum of character.

Oh! Now that's an idea I never would have thought of - I like it! I'd like to read it...
