The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Unfortunately, Hair is not feeling well, and has hit the couch already.

I had nothing to do with it.

(hope you feel better Hair, you'll get lots of advice on what to do from everybody else, so I'll stay quiet)

We are falling down,
down to the bottom of a hole in the ground.
Smoke em if you got em!
I'm so scared I can hardly breathe.
I might never see my sweetheart again.

The city council put it up as a memorial after the fall of the CCCP.

Pining for the Soviets?

Tell Hair to take it easy. Oh, and according to everyone else here the right alcoholic beverage can cure any ailment, so I'd start mixing drinks.

Evening, the artillery discussed today at work. The new GIS guy in our section at work just hung up a copy of discharge certificate on the cube wall.

Seems he was a Sgt in the Marines, Marine Artillery. Finds GIS a work a bit quieter. Nice fella, thanked him for his service.

I spent my last tour in the Div at the Arty Regt... huh?... didjuh say somethin?... huh?... what?....

Bwaaahaha... Artilleryman's answer to everthing: "WHAT?"

hehehe...

Coincidentally... I've been reading Tommy Franks new book "American Soldier". He grew up in artillery. It's a really good read if you haven't picked it up. One cool note: apparently Franks was involved in the process of finding the system that computes a radar input of an incoming mortar/artillery shell... then reverses the math to instantly compute the coordinates of the launcher and develops a firing solution...

Now THAT is cool stuff.

BUSTED! I heard what Tommy Franks said in response to John Kerry's stump speeches about how the President 'let bin Laden get away'. He absolutely SEARED Kerry, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving schmuck!

Cool! Thanks! The accompaniment sounds very 40's big band, and the singer sounds for all the world like Maurice Chevalier!
