ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. Skimpy bikinis are raising eyebrows at the Miss America Pageant. And that's just among the contestants.
The new, two-piece Speedo swimsuits are more revealing than the pageant is used to. That's led some of the 52 contestants to opt for the more conservative one-piece model.
One state pageant official called the bikinis "horrible." Miss Louisiana Jennifer Dupont said she was embarrassed to wear it in front of her father and coach.
One contestant who balked at wearing it was Miss New Jersey Erica Scanlon. She said she wouldn't have been comfortable wearing it on stage.
It didn't seem to faze Miss Utah Amy Davis. She won last night's swimsuit competition wearing one of the two-piece suits.

Skimpy bikinis are raising eyebrows at the Miss America Pageant. And that's just among the contestants.I guess that must be the reflexive action if they adjust the thong too tight.

They call that skimpy? I mean, if "skimpy" is supposed to mean "practically naked", perhaps we need a reference nude shot to make the comparison?

OK, now that the pictures have been posted, I can see some problems with them. Number one, the bikini tie cords are tied incorrectly: Speedo tie cords must be tied in the traditional "bow" pattern. Number two, the yellow hue used in these bikinis should be "UV Yellow", but this is clearly too light to be "UV Yellow". It looks like the bikinis were run through a copier several times to fade them. Third, the material appears to be a Nylon/Lycra 60/40 blend, and Speedo specifies a 80/20 blend for these bikinis. (You can see this due to the shortness of the wrinkle pattern above the bosom hem -- it's very easy to see this at high magnification.)
Here's an example of what the bikini should look like:
The differences in color and wrinkle length should be obvious! And even someone who isn't an expert can see the tie-cord problem.
The Miss America Pageant needs to investigate this situation right now, because IMO these bikinis are Speedo knock-offs. Because the knock-offs do not fit the contestants properly, this could very likely affect the results (already the news media is reporting that some contestants are opting for one-piece suits, and I ask you, don't you thing that would affect their scoring chances? It would certainly affect who how I would score with them). I think that Congress should initiate an investigation of this hoax immediately, and I would be glad to offer my services as an expert investigator. Certainly all of the contestants should be individually inspected to insure that they are utilizing the properly specified equipment and that it fits right.
