Why should I trust FreeRepublic as my news source?
Posted on 09/13/2004 8:43:24 PM PDT by Joe Republc
I'm asking as a devil's advocate...
Why should I trust Free Republic?
If someone pokes around here, can one reasonably discern what is truth vs. rumor? Can someone recognize here partisan conservative hype vs. unreported truth not covered by MSM?
If Free Republic is reliable, how come? What's working here that is not working in media, or even other web sites?
I have some of my own ideas, but I'm stirring the pot here to get your thoughts. I've been a Freeper for a few years now, and this week has been startling in terms of my own realization of what news we can rely upon and why.

All articles are sourced. Think for yourself. Not this one!

Because all of the articles are authenticated by our computer repairman, who incidentally, repairs over 1000 units a year.

Because the major media sources are seedbeds for "journalists" who no longer seek the truth. At FR, you WILL BE challenged. At FR, you will be exposed to multiple sources. FReepers demand investigation. It is why we gather here.

If someone posts and article about the Grape Festival in Paw Paw Michigan there will be plenty of comments from folks who'll swear their feet are still purple from when they attended......... Ya can't buy pundits with that much first hand / foot experience !

I would assume that anyone who has doubts about what he reads here would check that information against other sources. It's a personal responsibility type of thing.

I've always thought that FR was at it's best as a resource for the dissemination of news and opinion of interest to conservatives. Even though the "flake factor" is kinda big here it is still the best game in town.

This is the BEST news source in the world!!!!!

Your television contains nothing but lies. Your computer is also full of lies, but you can find the truth if you work hard at it.
You can use the power of your own brain to figure out what to believe, or you can just ask me what is true and what isn't.
I'm omniscient, I think.

One more thing...
I have only been on this website for a few months but I can tell you that I have news stories on here way before the liberal media got their grubby little hands on it. I was very skeptical at first, but when I started seeing things on the TV news DAYS after I saw it on here my reaction was, "...Damn."

As with anything, it's a little of both: conservative hype and truth unreported by the liberal networks, IMHO.
Good question. I ask myself this everyday.

Most of what's said here is BS, but if you hang around for a while, you can form your own judgments about who are the sharpest analysts. Then when you read an article, you can see the discussion between the minds you trust: often their disagreements are more instructive than when they're on the same page.
The reason you can trust this site is that the BS is unfiltered. The only BS filter you should ever trust is your own. Whether you primarily watch the MSM, or listen to the government, or read Mother Jones, or even NRA press releases, the BS is always coming through someone else's filter, and why would you trust that?

As sort of a vanity within a vanity and a poll besides ...
How many of FR readership has been "polled" by the so-called polls? I've asked my friends, neighbors, co-workers ... not a "pollee" among them.

Free Republic is a portal to actual source material and a conservative forum. Even a liberal could take advantage of the former and ignore the latter and they do.
To: Joe Republc
Who told you that FreeRepublic was a news source? FreeRepublic is an online forum where like minded patriots gather to discuss the news of the day. We're Conservatives and we post or link to articles that we find to be interesting but we don't generally report the news.
Follow the links in the Posts and discern for yourself if you can trust the source.
