Did Kerry give a different account of the Rassman incident in Senate Speech?

Posted on 08/30/2004 11:48:22 AM PDT by NavVet

El Rushbo, reported today, that Kerry, in a speech to the Senate several years ago gave an account of the Rassman incident that was different from any version he has floated to date. Essentially, acknowledging that Rassman simply fell off of his boat, when Kerry accellerated out of the area after the mine went off.

Has anybody heard this report from another source.

Here's a hypothetical. Suppose Kerry's boat was under heavy fire and he gunned the engine, Rassman fell overboard, and there were no other boats present. The hypothetical is this: Would Kerry have gone back for him?

The better question is "Has Kerry ever given the same account more than once?"

Perhaps another would be "Have Kerry and Rassman ever given the same account?"

Kerry or his spokespeople have given several versions of every story they've tackled and there are plenty of stories for them yet to take on.

More likely scenario: Suppose as soon as Kerry heard the mine go off, he and his boat took off and Rassman fell overboard.

That is what I tend to think really happened. The reason for the hypothetical is that I wonder if given my scenario, Rassman would still be floating in the river.

Oh, yeah, as in:
"He fell off? Oh, crap."

"Well, everyone's still back there. Someone will pick him up."

"Yeah, but how will that make me look? I guess we gotta go back."
Versus:
At the time: "He fell off? He wouldn't want us to endanger our mission by going back deep into hostile enemy fire all alone.
The evolved 2004 version:
"He was hit with an RPG and blown off the boat. And I was not going to endanger my men by going back deep into hostile enemy fire without adequate support to try to collect the pieces."
