Tenta faces another cancer hurdle

'Earthquake' John Tenta has revealed that he is facing yet another type of cancer, this time in his lungs.

After disclosing that he had cancer of the bladder in May, ending his in-ring career, Tenta endured chemotherapy for months. But Monday, he told his fans on the WrestleCrap.com newsboard that things had taken a turn for the worse...

John Tenta, most famous for his character as "Earthquake" in WWF wrote this on the Wrestlecrap Forums Monday:

"Well 'Crappers i know you've been waiting for an update so here it is. The silence was due to the fact I was moving into our new residence a couple weeks ago. Well, I don't know how to say this other than I've NEVER been kicked in the balls as hard as I was last Wednesday. Thinking I was licking this thing I met with my chemo doctor ready to 'Quake the cancer. Well..... I now have a new tumor in my left lung, and two lymph nodes are enlarged in my heart. I go in for chemo tomorrow for a 4-day session.(The beginning of many) I've been given 13-18 months to live. I'm not giving up, and hope to of course live longer, but that is what I've been told, and that it is incurable. I don't really know what else to say, it really caught me off guard. I'll try keep you posted, but no guarantees folks.

Thank you for all your kind support, and may God bless you all.

'Quake

I knew he was sick but I was hoping it hadn't spread.

Sad to hear. I remember some of his WWF matches from the late 80's - when he crushed Damien (Jake's snake), and his feud with Hogan before forming the Natural Disasters with Typhoon (formerly Tugboat).

I've seen 6 months turn into 5 years with 4 of them being fairly good years.

Hopefully, his is that case. My grandmother is fighting lung cancer and wasn't supposed to see her 79th birthday. She turns 80 next month.

His first appearance in the WWF was during a Dino Bravo (w/ manager Jimmy Hart)/Ultimate Warrior challenge.

Hart set up a Dino Bravo/Ultimate Warrior push-up contest and they picked the biggest guy out of the audience they could find to sit on their backs during the push ups...which was of course ended up picking John Tenta, posing as Joe Everyday Fan, but ended up being a plant of Jimmy Hart's and he squashed the Ultimate Warrior.

Tenta never found his assigned characters beneath him, he ran with the ideas. "Earthquake" had a cool signature behavior where he'd jump up and down on the mat with seemingly great force while circling a downed opponent, "Boom Boom Boom", as if his ritual would summon a real earthquake. Not only did this get over huge with the crowd, it signaled the finishing maneuvers while giving his opponents the "breather" some required to accomplish them. When he did that John displayed his flair for theatrics, intelligent planning and concern for his opponents welfare all at once. Good luck, big guy.

Well, I've been through it (and still am going through it), although by no means to the extent that this gentleman has or is going through it. My doc has told me on several occasions that as long as you are breathing, you should always be optimistic (difficult when you are being hammered by chemo, but necessary regardless of how you maintain it...optimism).

It sounds to me as though Mr. Earthquake has the right attitude, and we can all pray for quality time to come.

I remember seeing him wrestle Hulk Hogan live in Baton Rouge many many years ago.

This is sad news.
