On Wednesday I installed a Kodak photo disk and it seems to make my computer go haywire. I uninstalled it, but I don't think it removed everything. I keep getting pop-ups from freegiftworld.com and shoplet.com, and I know FR doesn't have pop-ups. Also, I get a file download box trying to install a file called "search" from search.yahoo.com.
Can anyone tell me how to remedy this? Isn't there a way to reconfigure your computer back to the date before you installed something? Would that help?
I appreciate any help you can give me, especially if it's in plain English, as I'm not a very technically minded person. :)
Hi. In Windows XP, you'd go to Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then System Restore.
1. Go to programs accesories system tools and then system restore to go to a previous date. First go to trend micro and do a scan and then go to lavasoft and download ad-aware and run it at least once a week.
You have mail. :-)
Add Spybot to the mix as well.
Lysol. Lots of Lysol.
Does that wipe out everything? Like my pictures and all?
;-)
Windows ME
No, it won't wipe everything out. It'll just take your system back to the settings it had before you started having your current problems. Just pick a day before Wednesday and use that as your restore point.
Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
Pick a date prior to your installation.
What program do you use for a browser? Check and see in the tools or preference section what you have set for the first page you go to when you open the browser. Sometimes the browser settings have been hijacked.
You need to find a good spy-ware removal program. I have a firewall, (Zone Alarm) several spy-ware removal programs, Ad Aware is a good one and free for individual use and I use Firefox and Avant for browsers. Both kill pop-ups.

Windoze ME.......ewwwwwwww.....sorry
Rather than try to do a system restore, I think I'd just try running Spybot Search and Destroy and/or Ad-Aware. Either of those ought to get rid of that garbage. Make backups of vital data before running them, of course.
I agree John, I hope he hasn't tried that restore yet. With ME God only knows what will happen.

I agree, sounds like spyware. As noted, Spybot Search & Destroy is a great program for getting rid of spyware.
Also, you can go to www.spywareinfo.com
This is a great site where you can post your computer problems and get free, step-by-step help on getting rid of spyware and other things causing problems.
