We have some beautiful mountain ranges in southern Arizona. OK, ok, I'm sorry, but I have to interject some politics again. I used to be able to hike EVERYWHERE alone, and it was my favorite thing in the world to do. It's not very safe anymore with the hundreds of thousands of illegals coming through daily. Everyone I know is packing a gun or two, but I still wouldn't feel safe hiking most places near us now.

I can understand what you're saying. I have always enjoyed hiking alone too, but I don't think I'd feel safe doing it there. I really wish we'd lock down the borders, but there is just no political will on the part of legislators in any capacity to do it. It is maddening. They breach the borders in droves, and we look away and pretend the problem doesn't exist. Or let's reward them for breaking the law by making them legal. Oh yeah, that'll really stem the tide.

Yep. FR is a great place to let off steam. In fact, this little corner of FR is a great refuge when you get battle worn and frustrated out there on the other threads. It's the place you come after being caught out in the storm to get out of your wet clothes (not a word Swervie), put your feet up in front ot the fire and have a cup of hot chocolate (or a stiff drink....whichever you prefer.Or a stiff blue thingie

Soooooooooo aggravating. The desert is trashed. My husband and I just worked on the Randy Graf campaign to try to do something. Randy didn't win the primary against Kolbe, but he said he'll run again in 2006. Meanwhile, we have to try to get Prop 200 passed in AZ, but of course the bigwhigs are coming out of the woodwork to try to defeat it.

Years. We came here at different times. This thread actually got started when a bunch of folks got booted from Lucianne's site, so they came over here and started this thread. Not sure exactly when that was. Maybe 2000 or 2001. A lot of us here were never over at that site though. We just all come here to chat about whatever's on our minds....from camping to gardening to county fairs to dating, just whatever we feel like, even politics and news. We discuss some of the other threads over here too.

Oh .. those are all close by .. I don't have to drive far at all
Put it to you this way ... my last car which I had for 14 years .. only had 62,000 miles on it
My new one that I got in May ... only has like 750 miles on it
If I need food from the grocery store .. It's right around the corner .. need a beer .. the bar is down the street ..

I know exactly what you mean about safety. I used to go anywhere I wanted alone to fish around these parts, as my hubby hates to fish.
If I go anywhere alone now, I am armed, as I do not feel safe even without the illegal immigration issue here in southeast Missouri.
But, what really galls me is that our own city and county parks are becoming havens for homosexual activity, and the authorities seem unable to control. I am afraid to let my grandson walk into a bathroom because of the scenerio he might just witness.
