Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
"Her miniskirt cost more than my entire curriculum for two kids."
Which I'm sure she was blissfully unaware of as she was going around doing good deeds by collecting money from others. . . :)
See? 50 bucks closer to Van-sama's new window. Sigh... my car still needs a name!
Maybe she got it at the thrift store for only .59 cents.
Is it time to go yet? We've just finishing listening to the whole soundtrack. :~D
Heh...my Mom used to call my little red car "the baby 'mater". Not exactly a flattering or car-like name.
Go! Before all the single guys get snapped up!
Sometimes I call it my "little car" because it's so odd, driving a small car.
That's assuming they exist!
Heh...when Ben and his gal were here, the subject of how tough it is to find anyone came up. I kinda pumped them for info on the places they've been, and she said "there aren't any good single guys. They don't exist." She did make an exception for my brother, of course. And said the other brothers seemed pretty cool.
Um...thanks for being uplifting.
"No, and probably never will be. Or they'll want too much supervision. They already demand a lot, it could only get worse."
Yeah, that would be bad. What do they demand now? Standardized tests I'd have mixed feelings about (I believe in educational standards but not in the federal government designing them) but could grudgingly live with them. Supervision of curriculum I'd object to more strongly because the teachers unions would be likely to try to build some PC crap into the curriculum.
"The unfair thing about taxes on people who send their kids to private school, or homeschool, is that they're paying for the product twice. Everyone who doesn't use the system, like people without kids, is getting a raw deal. But at least they don't pay twice."
That's why I was wondering. To me it only makes sense to give tax benefits to homeschooling familes. I used to write articles advocating vouchers for private schools and I see the same arguments applying to homeschooling.
"I really gotta go 'fore I get into trouble!!"
Trouble from something where you are or from saying something about me complaining about being hot in the mid-80s? :)
I've always wondered about this but don't think I ever asked: what is the etymology of "Van-sama"? :)
Hehehe...the guy wanted to know if I packed 'em. Nope. He can blame it on his packer buddies.
Sure we do...kind of. Ever try training college grads who can't add without a calculator or couldn't write a grammatically correct sentence if you put a gun to their heads?
"Hehehe...the guy wanted to know if I packed 'em. Nope. He can blame it on his packer buddies."
Hey, don't blame us Green Bay folks :)
"Ever try training college grads who can't add without a calculator or couldn't write a grammatically correct sentence if you put a gun to their heads?"
From an old SNL skit:
History teacher: Okay, let's start with something easier. Who did we fight in World War II?
Class: [blank stares]
Teacher: O-kay. Umm--did anyone see "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?
Class: [nods in recognition]
Teacher: Alright, good! Now, who was Indiana Jones fighting in "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?
Student [raising hand]: Um--the Ark?
Teacher: No. . .It started with an "N". Na-- [signals class to finish word]
Class: Na. . .
Teacher: Na. . .
Class: Na. . .
Teacher: Na. . .zis. . .
Class: Na. . .zis. . .
Oh, right, you watched Escaflowne in English, didn't you? It's from there. Merle the cat-girl is always yelling "Van-sama" piteously. Anyway when Rosie and her sibs got back from Entmoot, the sibs took one look at the car and yelled "Van-sama"! It stuck
Packers...Woo Hoo!
Now I want to see that MST3K with the giant spiders from outer space.
Still haven't found the remote yet. Aaaaack!!
Yeah...that's it.
Safe travels! Prayers and hugs and hopes for a good resolution for your friend.
"Merle the cat-girl is always yelling "Van-sama" piteously."
Oh, is that the equivalent of when in the dubbed version she cries "Lord Van!" at least three times every episode? :) I think I mentioned that to you at the time but I didn't know the Japanese equivalent so I didn't realize it related to the Van-sama thing. I was cracking up over that--I actually found myself going around the house after watching that hearing "Lord Van!" pop into my head at random intervals :)
