The Guild 3-23-2004 Our house is a very, very, very fine house...

Sen. John Kerry sold his foreign mansion in Italy just weeks before he announced a run for the White House in January of 2003, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Actor George Clooney purchased the stunning 18th century mansion located in the Italian village of Laglio [50 miles north of Milan] from Kerry and his wife for $7,800,000. Clooney first learned about the listing from Brad Pitt, who had been holidaying with his wife Jennifer Aniston at Versace's compound nearby.

While Kerry and his wife's homes in the United States are worth at least $23,733,705, it is not clear if the candidate currently owns property overseas.

The campaign has repeatedly denied requests for any information on foreign assets held by Kerry.

The sale of the Milan home might be why Teresa looks so unhappy. Watching 7,800,000 of your own money fly out Pepe's campaign door must of been hard to swallow.

From your post on the last thread to mountaineer:

The Republican National Committee has been sending out regular news releases about Kerry's French relatives and his popularity in France. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) has been known to start a speech with: "Good afternoon, or, as John Kerry might say, 'Bonjour.' "

LOL! Gotta love Tom Delay.

Max Berley, a French-speaking foreign editor at The Washington Post, made this startling discovery when he came across a blog item published last week by the French newspaper Liberation. "The entourage of John Kerry has just contacted a French anthropologist based in the United States, Clotaire Rapaille, in order to better understand how to beat Bush in November," wrote correspondent Fabrice Rousselot. He reported that Rapaille advised Kerry "to call for a summit with all the European leaders to devise anti-terrorism strategies, in order to show that he 'does more' than Bush regarding security."

More LOL! Certainly this will get Kerry the au courant, haughty, French looking gigolo who btw served in Vietnam elected.

DICK'S TALL TALE

He is the man who took charge of America on 9/11 by "putting together a secure teleconference to manage the crisis," he writes on page 2.

If you knew anything about Washington, you would surely think that a staffer on the National Security Council - traditionally a role without a great deal of authority - wouldn't be a major decision-maker during the day of and the days following the attack on this country.

Clarke says he all but ordered the president of the United States not to return to Washington on that day. ("Figure out where to move the president. He can't come back here until we know what the s--t is happening.")

By his own account, it was Clarke who gave the order to "authorize the Air Force to shoot down any aircraft . . . that looks like it is threatening to attack."

You thought it was Dick Cheney who gave that order? You were wrong - at least if you believe Dick Clarke.

Oh, and Clarke took command of the Air Force, too. ("Roger, find out where the fighter planes are. I want Combat Air Patrol over every major city in this country. Now.")

Whew, Richard is a smaller d**k than I thought.

So, do you suppose John and Terry have gone through these properties and decided which "outbuildings" will house the Secret Service, and pay rent to them?

Have you gotten your Abercrombie T-shirt yet?

Gov. Bob Wise sent a letter to Abercrombie & Fitch on Monday demanding that the clothing retailer stop selling a T-shirt that spoofs the state with the slogan, "It's All Relative in West Virginia."

Wise said the T-shirt depicts "an unfounded, negative stereotype of West Virginia."

"I write to you today to demand that you immediately remove this item from your stores and your print and online catalogues," Wise wrote. "In addition, these shirts must be destroyed at once to avoid any possibility of resale and proof be given thereof." Link

How does this company stay in business in the U.S.?

A little news on the 'home front'.

March 23, 2004 -- THERE'S one big problem with the Heinz House, where Sen. Snowboard, John Kerry, rests from his alpine adventures. The $4 million mansion outside Ketchum, Idaho, is clearly visible from the main road, Route 75. "This morning there are three Suburbans in front of the house, plus a huge Sheriff's Department white trailer and six or seven other vehicles," said our operative in the field, adding, "The temperature all week is a balmy 70 degrees out here." The buzz is that should Kerry become president, he and wealthy wife Teresa will swap Heinz House for former Ambassador Allan Blinkin's place, which is much more secluded and secure. PAGESIX

The SOB's aka the Secret Service will sleep in tents... if they're lucky.

Check out this wierd Dana Milbank "article" in today's WashPost:

White House Notebook
GOP Exposé: Kerry, Closet Frenchman
I don't know what to make of it. My initial reaction was that Milbank is trying to resurrect Michael Kelly's humorous writing style. I'd like your professional opinion.

HILLARY to a Dem obsessing over a Massachusetts liberal presidential candidate's chances: "John Kerry is no Michael Dukakis." [Cindy Adams]

From Liz Smith:

ENDQUOTES: "Success isn't based on 'Look what I can do!' but more on an inner sense of self and believing you have something to say in your own consistent way."

So says Ralph Lauren, in Marlo Thomas' book of inspiring essays, "The Right Words at the Right Time." (I will remember Ralph's remark the next time I receive a letter telling me to go stuff my opinions.) Now in paperback, you'll find in this book everybody from First Lady Laura Bush to Ray Romano to Mike Wallace to Jennifer Aniston.

Ralph Lauren should be on the Kerry campaign.

If, as Page Six reports, the Kerry Idaho home is so visible from the main highway...why was it so hard to find pictures of it? And so far I've only seen the one picture.

Wouldn't one think the press would have been stationed out on the highway filming the comings and goings? This is odd.

There's a thread on Gov. Hot Lips Wise's thinskinned reaction to the silly A&F T-shirt. Considering he and his Ruling Party have given the state a $120 million budget deficit, you'd think he'd have other things to worry about.

Linda Fairstein and Hillary Clinton 3/15/04

There was a luncheon at a local club celebrating the publication of Linda Fairstein’s 6th novel The Kills (Scribner).

I have agreed not to name the “local club” because it is private and some of these venerated (and invulnerable) institutions don’t like their name mentioned in print. Why this is has never really been clarified for me in terms that have logic or reason, but those are the rules and members can get in trouble if there is publicity associated with their name and that club.

So, Linda Fairstein had a lunch for her new book. This is actually her seventh book – the first was the non-fiction Sexual Violence; the War Against Rape.

We got there promptly at noon. There was a fire crackling in the main gallery filling the air with the assuring redolence of hearth and home on a cold winter’s day.

Two minutes after JH and I arrived, Senator Hillary Clinton came in, without fanfare or escort, and was greeted effusively by Ms. Fairstein. This is the fifth or sixth time I’ve been in the presence of our junior senator from New York and I’m always charmed by her warmth and friendliness. She seems accessible and she relates (she also remembers people’s names – something I’m lousy at). Such a manner is a rare quality, and I can’t emphasize that enough, not only for a person in her position – power, fame, celebrity, etc. It’s a rare quality, period. I’m not talking about politeness or civility, both of which also can be elusive in the fast-paced metropolitan life. I’m talking about warmth and friendliness.

I chatted with Senator Clinton briefly about the Democrats’ primary campaign. She asked me where I thought things stood at this moment. I told her what I thought. I didn’t ask her where she thought things stood. I was so flattered that she wanted to know what I thought, I forgot. Although it doesn’t matter to me what she thinks about the campaign. NewYorkSocialDiary

Ms. Fairstein, hilly thinks you're a dolt because she gave you an opportunity to let her give you her all important political expertise. Trust me, she's forgotten your name.

On the other hand if recalling names is a skill you admire, President Bush is your man.

Good question. I've looked and looked for a pic too.

Did you hear on Rush last week that the man who lives across the way from Kerry owns the road to Kerry's house. A conservative and Bush supporter he will line said road with Bush campaign signs. :-)

From the "blatherings of the young, stupid and marginally talented" file (NY Daily News):

Earnest actor Ethan Hawke hates puppet theater - and we don't mean "Avenue Q." The "Taking Lives" star is joining celebrity hecklers Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins in taking issue with President Bush's war on terrorism.

"We have a new definition of puppet," Uma Thurman's estranged spouse tells us. "I would love to see all of Bush's cabinet dismantled."

Hawke also wants to see campaign ads that don't exploit a national tragedy.

"It seems unnerving when somebody tries to use a tragedy for their own political gain," he rails, referring to Bush's controversial TV ads that incorporated images of 9/11.

"That tragedy belongs to all of America, regardless of party. I'm sure he's trying to draw attention to what he thinks was his finest moments of leadership, but I don't think he did anything remarkable as a leader during that period."

given the state a $120 million budget deficit, you'd think he'd have other things to worry about.

Well, he's got to look like he's doing something besides spending money.

Just heard Michael Hurley (9/11 comm. hearing) say that the Taliban came to Washington (didn't hear date but was before '98) for a meeting and bin Laden was hardly mentioned. Talk was mostly about drugs and the treatment of Afgan women.

One more house to mention, the Beacon Hill townhouse where Teresa and Pepe demanded a fire hydrant be removed so they could park right in front.

Is that a great non-sequitor, or what?

Are you kidding? And let the average slob know just HOW RICH this 'friend of the common man' actually IS? They'd rather continue to talk about how George W. comes from a wealthy Connecticut family rather than talk about Kerry's Boston Brahmin and FRENCH roots.

Have you listened to Kerry's testimony before Congress back in 1971? He sounds haughty and elitist; very much like he STILL sounds today!
