The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No, I'm a good big sister. Even if I am a bad influence. Besides, I was 17 when I started watching anime and look how I turned out! (er...)

Doesn't sound like Rosie wants to move this year. Sigh. Maybe I'll get her to come out and visit and she won't leave.

Oro? :) Hmm--she isn't showing any signs of aspiring to become an Evil Overlordess yet, is she?

Well, yeah, if she comes to visit you and "accidentally" buys a one-way ticket. . . :)

Last round up a fore hitting the hay.

Hair; not really, LSA's and my taste in movies overlap enough that it's not a problem when either of us drift a bit to one side or the other of the usual fare.

Overtaxed; grinning, we figured you would be able to 'find' another one or two.

Wneighbor; well, it's gonna be one of them thar "Eeeevil SUVs", mid sized and a suitable number of bells and whistles to keep us entertained. :-) The Highlander is the one that keeps calling us back, we've check out the others and this seems to hit more of the points that we were looking for.

g'nad, those old Colt autos are classics.

G'night all.

I have found a reportedly VEY nice '65 Mustang in Dallas. It's a 289 3 speed manual. I think I may be driving to Dallas this week!

Wonderful old Colt, and great shooting by Mrs.nad.

A groundhog up a tree? Was it scared of the guinea hens? I've never heard of that before.

I guess if you hear the guineas making a racket, it's a good idea to be armed before investigating.

Are you kidding? She really does want to rule the world. Through someone. I just joke about it. I've told her she's not allowed to rule through me.... sigh, well, out of six siblings, one has to be worthwhile.

Morning.

Good morning, morning ladies... it's cold but sunny here. Brrr. Had to haul my coat back out. I really don't want to go to work, but eh, it shouldn't be that bad, right?

See you tonight.

Noooo!

Seriesly, moving IS something I'm kinda thinking about. Trouble is, to move I'd have to a) sell the house b) figure out what to do with all the animals (i.e. how to transport at least SOME of them - I refuse to give up Tam, no matter what), c) come up with money for the travel and figure out how to move a BUNCH of books, CDs and instruments and d) get rid of allll the rest of my stuff. It's pretty involved, and would be even if I were just moving a couple of hours away.

And when I really think about it, I'm not sure I want to be anywhere else. This is a very fine place to live...except for the lack of nice guys. *sigh*

That's a great picture of y'all!! Did you get a picture of the groundhog? I remember that great big possum y'all got that time...

Do you think this is the "possum" you thought was stalking your girls? Does this mean I'm not going to have any possum stew?

;-)

Good job, mrsnad!

thestoopidbirds were chasin' it... maybe because mrsnad a'skeered it... I think it hung around in the tree till mrsnad got back because it didn't know how to get down...

I really like that old Colt... handles beautifully... nice fer mrsnad to pick up and use... she's got the .357 fer larger varmints...

I guess if you hear the guineas making a racket, it's a good idea to be armed before investigating.

we've learned that...

I made a easy every-day loaf of wheat bread yesterday...very easy and quick...

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

3 cups whole wheat flour (3 to 3 1/2 cups)
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons INSTANT yeast
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons liquid honey
1 egg -- lightly beaten

In a bowl (I used my mixing bowl because I have dough hooks on my mixer), combine the dry ingredients.

In a small saucepan, warm up the milk water, oil and honey. Not too hot, you know...just warm enough to make the yeast happy.

Put the egg in the flour, then pour the warm liquids in on top...mix them together till the dough starts to pull away from the side (adding flour if needed),

Flour your surface and your hands and scoop out the dough (mine was pretty sticky). Keep sprinkling on flour and kneading until you get that nice spongy dough feeling.

Grease a bread pan, shape dough into a loaf, put it in the pan, let it rise till double then bake for about 25-30 minutes or till makes that hollow sound when you tap it.

Things I did...

I didn't have any honey. I used 1 tablespoon molasses and 2 tablespoons corn syrup.

I also floured my pan with whole wheat flour and the loaf just slid right out.

This makes a small loaf...but it is so easy you could make it every day...and since it only rises once, it doesn't take forever...you could start it a couple of hours before supper and have it fresh!
