The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Morning!

Less sick today. Guess I'll make it to class. I still have a nasty headache though.

I'm glad you're getting better. Being sick during school is such a drag.

Yeah, you're telling me. It's hard enough to stay awake in class sometimes.

I was just reminiscing about one of my physics finals. I was sooooo sick. I made a row of supplies across the front of my desk: calculator, pencils, pile'o cough drops, cough syrup, tissues, chocolate. The prof chuckled. Ya gotta do what it takes to survive!

Huh... These days, I drag a computer around campus as well as my whole bag of books. Tuesday I was so sick just walking up two flights of stairs with that load exhausted me.

Please, ibuprofin, kick in....

Good morning everyone!

Jen - hope you feel better soon, chica!

Sam - nice gun!! You should teach me to shoot sometime. *grin*

Fedora - Sorry I missed you again last night for Stephen King, but my youngest was very cranky and wouldn't go to bed. I didn't get to watch it at all. What did I miss?

And, most importantly....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY G'NAD!!!

Good morning...

Is it really g'nad's birthday? Hmm...April 1st...why does that seem appropriate? ;-)

Still haven't actually spoken to the vet, but expecting he'll call sometime this morning. He left another message this morning, but I missed him again.

Oh, sheesh, forgot it was April 1st. Rats, better avoid the brothers at all costs.

Heh...boss just got one of my co-workers but good. We've been talking about out-sourcing the dorm network, so they'd be separate from our network, and go through a company that would be better able to manage bandwidth and such. Boss said that upper management had decided that, as an additional revenue for the college and for better service for students, they'd essentially out-source it to us...we'd be given SOME additional equipment and would have to keep track of which students had paid for what bandwidth, etc. etc. Without additional staff. The network admin just about had a heart attack.

Boss even brought in donuts to "soften the blow", which made it seem pretty real. Heh...

Oh, lovely, lovely.

Am just as glad I'm not bothering with the office today. (Nobody's there, one guy's on a business trip and one's at a funeral, so I'm working from home until it's time for school). Guess I escape the worst of it today. Unless someone pulls a prank at school.

Well...just talked to the vet. Got the news I kind of expected - it was indeed a mammary carcinoma, and the chances that they got absolutely every trace of cancer are pretty slim. The vet said that the last cat that he'd seen this in was also an older Siamese, and though they did additional surgeries to buy her more time, she didn't live a whole lot longer after the first diagnosis. I'm going to discuss it with him in more depth when she goes back to have the sutures removed...but I'm thinking most likely we're looking at a year or a little more, unless we're lucky. I'm just not willing to put her through too much more in the way of painful treatments, and if the cancer spreads to any other part of her body and she isn't feeling good any more...that will be the end.

But until then, I can spoil her and just hope for the best. *snif*

And she's had a good life, right? I'm sorry you got such bad news. All you can do is take care of her until, well, you can't - but with animals, that's all you have to do.

Hey guys,

Just a brief prayer request... a family we know not that well, but well enough, needs some prayer. She was pregnant with, I think their third child, and last weekend the baby was born and he had ancephaly - no brain. It's been very hard for them and yesterday the baby died, which actually might be kind of merciful. Sometimes babies with that disorder live for weeks or even months but it's got to be so hard on the family.

Also apparently it's very important to take folic acid before you even become pregnant, it drops the likelihood of that or spina bifida... anyway, just remember them if you would.
