The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

My ideal stove would have gas burners on top and an electric oven, but I have no idea if such a beast actually exists. They make em, and they're called "Dual-Fuel" ranges!
I thought about having a gas cooktop with separate electric wall ovens in the new kitchen, but I've decided on an electric cooktop. I found one that is made up in Vermont, by the Caldera company. It has electronic controls and uses something called 'microcycling'. You can set the heat on the 'burners' from below simmer all the way up to blast furnace and anywhere in between. The response time is immediate, just like a gas cooktop, but the surface is completely flat because there are no knobs, so cleanup is easy! There are a couple of other manufacturers, but I haven't seen them close up. I don't need that item for another year or so, when the kitchen starts getting fitted out!

Are either of you familiar with the 'Tenebrae' Service? We're going to be doing it at our church this coming Friday night. It is rather pretty. I know I've heard some of the music before, but not put together in this way. This is called "The Shadow of the Cross", and it's described as a 'Contemporary' Tenebrae Service. It's not electric guitars, etc. We're going to do it with the organ and strings. We had our first rehearsal for it last Thursday, and we have another this Thursday with the musicians. The service is Friday night! The organist and choir director gave us copies of the score and a CD of the service so we could learn our parts before the rehearsals. I did pretty well, considering it's VEY hard to hear the alto part on the CD sometimes. I don't read music, so I have to hear it and then remember the notes.

Good! Can you relax better now? I can still scratch your back... from this far away. :-)
Were those bites part of what was keeping you awake last night?

It isn't bleedin or anything gross, it just really hurts to walkDon't know if it got better today, but when I get one of those, I put antibiotic cream on it and put a bandage over it. Takes a day or two, but it usually heals up quite nicely. It usually happens when it has been very dry in the house for several days.

Yeah, and keep him away from the scorpions, too.
And the black widows.
And the yellow jackets.
And the Africanized bees.
And the brown recluses.
And the stickleburrs.
And the chiggers.

I adore that historical period (Napoleanic Wars), and I gobbled up the Hornblower series.Don't remember if I'd asked you before; have you read the 'Richard Sharpe' series by Bernard Cornwell? The books are about a British Rifleman in the Iberian Peninsula campaign during the Napoleanic wars. Sean Bean (yum) played the part in the tv series on A&E.

The police stood by with crossed arms watching and allowed the mom to beat the crap outta the woman... When she'd stomped a mudhole in the chick's @$$ the cops asked if she'd gotten it all out of her system and then arrested the kidnapper. ROTFLMAO!! That is just SO great!! It's every mom's dream to be able to do that to someone who put her child in jeopardy!

I should have remembered to put some neosporin or something like it on my heel today. Yesterday, I lotioned it up, and put on some socks to keep from drying out. It burned slightly, I guess that tells me I am not imagining this, LOL. Tomorrow is going to be lots of in the car and lots of outdoors standing. Before heading to bed, I am going to take your advice! (should have done the in the first place :-)
