The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks... I somewhat unexpectedly have the day off, so I'm taking things easy today.

Gotta wonder what the exit strategy was.... she had to know she was self-destructing her own future.

Well, our Kitty6 has a now-dubious future. This update has sortof bad news... two emails:

Dona called to ask about Kitty and was told that the vet wants to talk to me. He's in surgery right now so the call won't be coming for awhile, but I can't imagine this isn't bad news of some kind. No one has said a word about any kind of problem except that he's slow in coming-around to eating on his own, and even that was described as normal in his circumstance. So can't imagine what it might be. One worry does leap to mind: what if he wants to go back in and have a look? Whew! What then?

Next email:

Examination this morning, expected to be good, was not. It's in his lymph system. Lymph nodes were found that were not there yesterday. [they found Cancer there - Hair] The vet said he was devastated when he found them this morning - "felt like I'd been hit in the stomach". The vet says this is quite a cat to which he's become quite attached and has some happy time left, so thinks we owe him that after all he's been through and should bring him home.

Dad and Dona are really sad about this.... They knew there was a chance of a return of this ~someday~ but they don't like knowing that someday is already here. The vet never would have done the surgery if he had known.... But I think the surgery itself brought on this reaction, for it to be so fast. He's had a good life, whenever they decide it is time for it to end.

Hmmm... Orlando Bloom as Bond. Not sure I like that.

~puts on fanboy geek hat~

He is just FAR too young and too "prettyboyish" to play Bond now. James Bond should be at least in his thirties (he was 31 at the time of the events of Dr. No).

Of course, the Sean Connery of From Russia With Love and Goldfinger is the gold standard of Bond portrayals. Pierce Brosnan isn't too bad though... better than Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. Moore played him too light, and Dalton too dark.

He played much older than 31 in this role:

I don't think he's macho enough to play James Bond.

Timothy Dalton was an portrayed an emotionally unstable Bond IMO. Didn't like him as Bond at all. I always thought that Dalton should have been skipped and that Pierce Brosnan should have been Bond well before he actually was.

Of course, no one will compare to Connery. Wonder if they could do a Young Bond with Orlando. How old is he anyway?

Brosnan should have been Bond after Roger Moore; in fact the producers had all but hired him. Unfortunately, with the publicity about Brosnan being Bond the "Remington Steele" show started getting better ratings, the network approved one more season, and Brosnan was contractually obligated to play that part instead of becoming Bond. By the time "Remington Steele" was cancelled, Timothy Dalton had been hired as Bond....

Orlando is 27. He might work out.

I agree about Dalton. Living Daylights wasn't too bad (other than an overly convoluted script), but Licence to Kill was an abomination. That movie has none of the usual Bond humor to lighten the mood. Dark, dark movie.

OK, off to town... be back in a bit.
