The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yes, it has two different tunes for the old and new...he's listening now but I told him we were skipping tonight. I gotta learn to control myself...I know my blood pressure musta gone sky high...

That's the only drawback to having young children when you are elderly! LOL Still, most people my age are dealing with teenagers or older now.

Beyond that I have access to a small-town library system which isn't as good as what a big city or major college would have but allows me general access to a lot of stuff.

When it comes to books, I can end up learning more with a smaller library --- it forces me to go into subjects or authors I wouldn't have if I'd had more choice.

Why do you ask?--did you have a book to recommend?

I probably will eventually. But actually I was thinking about music.

BTW if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Guess not!

What gets me are the ones that say they can't "afford" to get any antivirus software, and don't have time to keep their systems clean. They DO apparently have time to download ever shareware piece of junk ever created, though.

And you can't afford NOT to have antivirus software if you're on a network, IMO.

Then when I'd had it up to my eyebrows, one girl's MOTHER called and just ripped me up one side and down the other...her daughter had brought her system down and it was really not running right...we told her to reload it with the restore CD or restore function. Her mother called us ineffective, said we should be doing this FOR her daughter, that if any viruses were making it on campus (even via a toted on laptop) we weren't doing our job, that she was going to have to hire someone to do OUR job by helping her daughter, etc. etc. etc. She got nasty. I was polite. It was hard.

Sigh.

Pink hair girl rocked!

I find it hard to believe she hasn't done country before. Mr. S2R and I both think she sang that song wayyy better that fat Nat ever did!

I was intrigued during the little dance number how hot Matt looked in his dancin' outfit.

Matt is cute, but I gotta agree w/Simon (and I usually do) that S#!+-eatin' grin is starting to irk me. Still he has an excellent speaking voice, and I could see him as an actor.

Yer right, the Hobbit was bad. Bring back the goofy hairdo. And a better song choice- ugh!

Somebody went psycho with the hair straightener. I hope he didn't get it cut. JPL has song choice issues. I think Randy set him straight though.

I was expecting John Stevens to break out some Marty Robbins.

Mr. S2R says "El Paso" ----I 'm only passing this on, I wasn't raised on country like he was.

Hehehe....you didn't tell her her daughter was too stoopid to be in school?

Anyway you could put up filters so they couldn't access those download sites? Hehehehe

There are far too many. And a lot of the junk they have is just from browsing the internet randomly.

We COULD just block 'em from the Internet entirely...but I think that would cut our retention rates a bit...

On the other hand...no students, no problems with student computers! Hey...that could work.

Or not.

Ah, the joys of academia... I forget that all the students I hate must make life even less enjoyable for the staff...

In my writing class, there's one girl I refer to as Lobelia... as in Sackville-Baggins. Freshman, English major, anorexic, and the sun sets on her whim. Sometimes I wish homicide were justifiable.

You could just network the classroom and make those leechers pay for their own Internet access.

We're actually thinking of outsourcing the dorm net. They'd get some bandwidth standard...if they wanted higher speed, they'd have to pay extra. And ALL of it would be through an outside cable company or something along those lines.

Though I don't know if it'll actually happen, I must say I like the idea.

Ramius; got to thinking, given your location, you should check out www.selfbow.com and see if Northwest Archery would fit into your travel plans. Glenn St. Charles is one of the grand old men of archery and his shop is a museum. Worth a visit.

Oh PQ, that letter just brought tears to my eyes. He WANTS the Lord SO badly! You reckon he's thinking he's not worthy or something? Heck, NONE of us is truly worthy, but that's the beauty of Jesus; He takes us, warts and all! Your Daddy will be in my prayers for SURE!!
