The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Did you get Alpha first?
Actually I gave them those names while I was thinking up more permanent ones from anime but by the time I decide on some I had been calling them alpha and Beta so long I left it at that. They are sisters from the same litter of free barn kittens that I picked up a couple years back. The only dogs my apartment is good for are tiny ones and I prefer no so tiny ones so the cats were by back up plan. When I get a bigger place some time I will get them a puppy to play with :D

Ah... that's my goal, too. August's when I'm moving, want to be in shape by the move... so we can keep encouraging each other.
Wow, August's not that far off!
Time for class. See you later...

Phonetic Alphabet names would work real well for cats!
Good morning everyone!

We have a gym in our house!
Sweet! That would be cool. I want to get more stuff at home so I can do things like stationary bike in front of a TV or computer. The company gym can be pretty boring if you are just running on a treadmill :P

Good morning!
Yeah I kinda like that naming system. I will have to use it if I get more cats. I name dogs after comets so far. Comet was a good dog name and so was Halley but I am looking for another comet with a name better than hale-bopp or something like that.

I have a little dog...but I'd much prefer a Lab or Golden. I whine about that here a lot. Fiona is entertaining...but it's not the same. She IS the right size to play with Tam, which is kind of a good thing! He drives the other cats nuts wanting to play all the time. Fiona is perfectly willing to chase and be chased, so they get along.
You're into anime? What do you like?

Goldens are nice. My first dog was about that size and had hair like that but was black. She was a mutt but similar to a Flat Coated Retriever. That is my main reason for wanting a house but I don't want to have to go home at lunch everyday to walk a dog :P ah the dilemma. I could use a crate but I think it would be mean to crate the dog and let the cats run free to taunt it.
You're into anime? What do you like?
er.. to many to list hehehe. A very VERY short list would be: Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa, Crest of the Stars, Fruits Basket, and Full Metal Panic. I could list titles all day though.

I bought a house so I could have a dog...but right now only have a small house and a small dog. I'd LIKE a bigger dog, but I don't have much of a yard and I don't know that I have the discipline I'd need to take a dog for a long walk a couple times a day no matter what the temperature or weather, which I would think I'd need to do for SURE with a larger dog unless I had a big yard and could play fetch with them and all that. Fiona gets quite a bit of exercise in the house, but that wouldn't work for a larger dog.
My dog is home all day...when she was a puppy I was working closer to home and able to walk her, but can't now. Probably not the best situation, and I DO have a relatively short commute and work day, but she does OK.
Of course, starting out with a puppy would be different. And I DID crate her when she was little. She actually liked her crate for the most part. She's always happy when I bring it back out to bring a pet to the vet. ;-) So no permanent scarring, I guess...
We spent most of the evenings at Entmoot watching anime, or a group of us did. I've seen Nausicaa, but not the others you mentioned. I've heard of Fruits Basket...one of the other animooters had it with her, but we didn't get around to watching it.

Hi, Hair and Ecurbh, your invitation is beautiful.
We don't know yet whether we can make it, but it sure looks like fun. A true "storybook" event. Very happy.

If I get a house I will probably go for a young adult dog from a shelter that is already house trained. That would work ok if it was one I could leave for 8-9 hours.
Have not seen those? I guess I will turn that question around and ask what you like then.

Well...not so good news on the kitty. They finished the surgery and she's OK...but the vet said it looked like a malignant adenocarcinoma (if I'm getting the name right), and though it tried to get everything, if that IS what it is, it may well come back...and it was right next to her lungs. They are sending a sample off, and I should hear more by early next week.
If it DOES prove to be cancerous...I guess all I can do is hope that it takes awhile to come back. If it does...if and when she ends up sick or in discomfort I'll be facing putting her down. Chemo is just not something I would go through with a cat, not for the pain and cost involved.

Have not seen those? I guess I will turn that question around and ask what you like then. I'm still relatively new to anime. Jen and Soupy and my brother Bilbo are a lot more knowledgeable.
At Entmoot, we watched a BUNCH of Miyazaki films, plus Escaflowne. I've also seen Metropolis, and just finished Scrapped Princess...not sure of the Japanese name.

I just hope she recovers quickly from this surgery, at least. The vet said he had to make a fairly large incision. I'm fretting.
