The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...

Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

But not yet weary are our feet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's been so nice. Last two weeks, we've had ground. Now... well, it hasn't disappeared yet.

All along the farm road to my old home yesterday there were wildflowers starting. I used to love driving that road cause I had speed on those curves and hills down to a science. Yesterday, I was driving like one of the farmers... and enjoying every last wildflower I saw! :-)

Troop Package March 8

Okay all, this is what the packages looked like that I sent out last Monday.

There was one more box than these that went out too. These each contained a large bag of Gardettos, a box of the big Little Debbie Oatmeal cakes, a package of cookies, lots of hard candy, shampoo, soap, several magazines and homemade fudge.

Sigh... I'm about to leave for school. Have to run by the bank on the way or I'll start bouncing checks. Not a good thing. At least yesterday was payday.

Yeah, we used to make a drives through the hill country several times during this wildflower 'sploding time. It is just spectacular. Someone (visitor from out of state) once make a crack that it was just the highway department planting those blue bonnets for tourism. I wanted to roll my eyes but didn't. We came around a bend afterwards that the bluebonnets covered as far as you could see, off across the hills in the distance. I bit my tongue.

I still have a coupla days till payday.

Should also get a little pay for the St. Patrick's Day concert here. Nothing much...but I'm going to use it for fun stuff. Should be enough for another batch of paperbacks, in any case!

You know how when they're like that you can smell 'em on the breeze? Well, from the back of a motorcycle you can multiply that bluebonnet fragrance by a factor of 10! It's the most incredible thing to ride through the country in spring when they're blooming and smell that!

At the old house I could look out back and many years the bluebonnets would cover the fields over to the next hill. It was a sea of blue blowing in the breeze. Nothing like it! This is what Texas is all about! :-)

I wouldn't mind making that trip on the back of a motorcycle - once.

And I'm out of Bailey's!

I don't think I'd do the Bailey's while doing taxes, but it sure would make doing the 'Flylady' thing a LOT more tolerable! ;o)

Great pics of the TJ Garcia moot!

Our #2 son will be in Austin weekend after next to interview for Grad School. He's thinking he'd like to go to UT Austin rather than UMass Amherst simply because it will be warmer in the winter! LOL! He's tired of the cold; I can relate!
