The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Evening All!! [looks around] Nice place.
I wasn't feeling too great today. Left the office early, and laid down for a while. Feeling a little better now. Sorry I'm late... :-)

Good evening, Ramius!
Sorry you had a rough day. :-(
Got yelled at by a client today and my supervisor got involved. Not a good way to start the week. *sigh*

No, sad to say, it was my fault. Last Wednesday I had to run 21 payrolls and this particular client has a really bad habit of sending in maintenance (new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, etc) with the payroll even though they're supposed to send it 48 hours in advance before payroll runs.
Long story short, I rushed through the maintenance and made 2 mistakes that I normally wouldn't, but I had to get it done to run the payroll!
After she got through yelling, I made sure to tell her (in the most professional way), that I would no longer be entering ANY maintenance for them the same day as payroll. She huffed about it, but I repeated it was "company policy" and that my deviation from it for their convenience has now caused their unhappiness, and I do not like to make my clients unhappy - so no more same day maintenance service for them...PERIOD!

Well Ruthy, that is totally sensible! And they could have managed to be a smidgeon more understanding given the circumstances! But, people prefer to be rude more often anyway. Cheer up! Problem prevented in the future. Was you supervisor upset with you? :-(

Oh, good for you, Ruthie! Don't take nonsense when you don't have to!
I'm going to bed. Oww, my legs hurt. See you all tomorrow. Unless we get buried under with snow. I hate snow.

My supervisor is a lovely Christian woman and has been a friend for many an age before I started working with her, so she handled the client and she understood my perspective as well.
It doesn't hurt that my timecard proves I worked until 7pm that day with no lunch, so they know I wasn't goofing around and making careless errors. It was simply a matter of having too many payrolls in one day and then adding time-consuming maintenance to the mix was a recipe for disaster.
The situation was resolved, but I fear that this client has me on her crapola list and will make my life very uncomfortable semimonthly.

Sounds like it serves 'em right, Ruthy! I wouldn't worry about it too much.
OK, I have to get to bed now, too! Good night, all!
