Prayer for my SIL, Sarah. Stage 4 ovarian cancer.

My sister-in-law, Sarah, widow of my departed brother, was operated on for a large ovarian tumor on Friday. It has spread and the Doctors spent 5 hours removing as much of it from the abdominal cavity as possible. It is classified stage 4 - terminal.

Of course you have our prayers. Praying that Sarah will know Jesus, and for her comfort and that of her children. Prayers for you and your whole family as you go through this very difficult time.

This is the first cancer death in our family. We all seem to die of heart disease and related problems. We know about heart conditions and what to expect. Cancer is new to us.

I'm so concerned that it took so long for a diagnosis. I keep thinking that if her Doctor had been more on the ball, he should have caught this two years ago when she started complaining about problems.

But right now, there are more important issues to focus us.

I'm arguing against chemo - as it will make her so very sick and she just doesn't have a long time left. My position is for quality of life for the time left. I'm making sure she has a Doctor who understands pain management and isn't afraid of making "an addict" out of her by prescribing the meds she needs right now.

Father,

Take Sarah under your wing of care. We know that the blood Jesus shed on the cross was for her as well; do not let that portion of Christ's work on our behalf go unfulfilled.

Salvation comes from the Lord...I pray that You'll overwhelm Sarah with Your love. While everyone has a choice in the matter of their standing with You, You have a wonderful ability to press the issue a bit, and to overshadow a person's doubts and unbelief. We pray this will be the case with Sarah. Drive those shadows away with your magnificant light.

She is not alone in this; Jesus, we know You desire to shoulder this burden for her, that she may face the coming days, and her mortality, in peace, and with assurance that life on this world is transitory for everyone, but that our lives are meant to be in fellowship with You for eternity.

Speak to her heart; draw her to Yourself. Make her able to hear Your words, and to experience Your love. You are sovereign over Sarah's life. You can grant her healing; but we recognize that her healing may be the ultimate healing may be found in going home to be with You and exchanging a disease-ridden body for an eternal body of light where disease will not be experienced.

Lord, this is Your will for all, that all would come to a saving knowledge of You. We pray according to your will. Grant Sarah the strength, the life, and the time necessary for her to take an account of her life and to consider You.

Lord, give strength and clarity of intent to those who may be called upon to share Your grace with Sarah. Lead them to the scriptures which speak of the reality of Your riches and resources which are available to anyone through a spiritual union with Christ. You are our comfort, our peace, our well-being, our assurance, our freedom from anxiety, the door through which we enter eternity. Let her see You for who You are. Allow those around her who know You to communicate these truths about You; let them speak in truth and in power; may they do it with love and with boldness. Sarah has nothing to gain in holding on to her unbelief; she has everything to gain by taking You at Your word. Let her put You to the test, and find You completely true and real.

Be there for her, in her thoughts, in her dreams. Speak to her of Your love and care. As anyone who has come to You in faith knows, You don't simply give us strength to endure trials -- most often, You pick us up and carry us across the trial. Let this be Sarah's experience.
