Actually, from what I've heard, it's only Mel's hands we see holding the spike hammered into Jesus' hands and feet. I don't think Mel wanted to receive recognition for any acting role that is in the movie. I could be wrong, but I don't think Mel does a "cameo" other than the filming of his hands/arms.

Look, there is no controlling legal authority. Everyone does it. You are just being partisan. It's my private life. Anyways, the stock market is doing well. It's a risky prosecution scheme. We should just put this past us.
