NEW YORK, Feb. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Blue Fusion, a new youth marketing consultancy formed out of a partnership between D.C. consulting firm Westin Rinehart and teen-marketer BuzzMG announced results today of a national survey of 310 buzzSpotters from all across the U.S. Respondents ranged in age from 12-20 and the survey was administered between Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8.

CBS IS OVERREACTING!

In response to the question "Do you think CBS is overreacting about the Justin/Janet situation?" 74 percent of youths said "Yes," and 26 percent said "No."

In response to the question, "Do you think the media would have reacted the same to any other artist?" 61 percent of youths said "Yes", 29 percent said "No", and 10 percent said "Don't know."

"Our survey showed that kids don't feel that the "crime" was proportionate with the "sentence", said Morris L. Reid, managing director of Westin Rinehart and managing partner of Blue Fusion. "While 61 percent of the respondents felt that the media would have reacted the same way to any other artist, there was a strong feeling in the other 29 percent that this act was either a ploy to take attention off of the Michael Jackson situation or that it only got such heated attention because Janet is Michael's sister. Our respondents in general felt that a bare breast was too petty a situation to have gotten so much media coverage, in an election year.

"I think if the media would pay this much attention to our country's ailing education system, we could achieve some tangible change. Instead, the media decides to focus incessantly on issues that have little bearing on the greater good of the people. If the media would consider championing a cause with a greater moral importance, it might actually do a civil service," said Ezra, a 19-year-old college student from Washington, D.C.

JANET & NEXT STEPS....

In response to the question, "Who do you feel was to blame -- Janet or Justin?" 39 percent of respondents said "Janet," 33 percent said "both," 19 percent said "Justin," and 13 percent said "neither."

In response to the question, "Do you think that Janet should have been replaced by Patti LaBelle at the Grammy's?" only 13 percent said "Yes," and 61 percent said "No."

"Our experience and regular forums and survey with young people shows how clearly their experiences and viewpoints are different than corporate America," said Tina Wells, chief executive officer of BuzzMG and managing partner of Blue Fusion. "Kids simply don't feel seeing a bare breast is scandalous, and artists accused of far worse were allowed to attend the Grammy's -- something the kids clearly thought was wrong."

"I find it disturbing that Janet Jackson was asked not to attend The Grammy's because of the events that happened at the Superbowl, yet R. Kelly is still attending and he is accused of having sex with minors," said Chris, a 19- year-old student from Chicago, Illinois.

Oh, absolutely from the viewpoint of a typical 12-20 yr old; I would agree 100%. These kids probably see boobs on cable TV, in most movies they rent; and think it was pretty darn cool.

However, the typical 12-20 yr old is NOT raising a family with impressionable children around. The Superbowl tends to be a family based viewing habit in many families; thus the opinions of 12-20yr olds should be taken with the same weight as their statistics would make up in the overall viewing audience.

I think they are a 'cherry picked' minority by CBS to make their error in judgement appear in the best possible light.

"I think if the media would pay this much attention to our country's ailing education system..."

I think if the media would pay this much attention to the cover-your-ass policies of the teachers' union there wouldn't be an ailing edumacation system.

Agreed. We need more parents to be "parents" and not "cool friends". Why are so many "good" movies rated PG-13, R, NC-17, etc??? "I wanna see them!!!" < /sarcasm >

"I find it disturbing that Janet Jackson was asked not to attend The Grammy's because of the events that happened at the Superbowl, yet R. Kelly is still attending and he is accused of having sex with minors," said Chris, a 19- year-old student from Chicago, Illinois.

Janet Jackson attempted to jumpstart publicity for her new album by offering a sexualized display of a mutilated nipple as the closure of her AOL Super Bowl halftime performance.

R. Kelly did not do what he did as a publicity stunt. If he is that much of a risk to society, he should not be out on bail.

The Grammy's nominally are designed to reward sales, therefore an adulterer and perjuror like Bill Clinton can win an award for best children's spoken word album regardless of his private life.

If Bill Clinton's response to impeachment had been, "but I was thinking about this wonderful recording that would defend the wolf in Peter and the Wolf, for the children..." then it could be said that fornigate was all a promotional scam too.

BTW, the LA Times wrote about some videos that got moved to later in the night as a result of the FCC smackdown over the Super Bowl. The article mentions that this is not the first time MTV has engaged in such censorship. The author mentions that R.Kelly was moved off of the afternoon program TRL (Total Request Live) after the statutory rape allegations/video surfaced.

Well, I'm certainly not a youth (according to that survey) but I have three words for the American public...

GET OVER IT!

Far worse things are seen on music video channels every day. And honestly, if I see another Janet Jackson thread, the person responsible is gonna owe me a new laptop computer 'cos I'm gonna barf all over the monitor, the screen, the hard drive, and probably the cute little optical mini-mouse....
