The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I think, unlike you, Hemingway was not a very nice person.
But, IMO, his writing ability is not overrated. I think the guy actually, singlehandedly, changed the way prose is written.
Is it cold in Pittsburgh?

Hey there... and... later...

It's actually been warmish today. 40 degrees. Tomorrow it goes back down to the 20s.
I think it might be too bad that Hemingway changed prose style. I really like the old styles... Dickens, or a Sherlock Holmes story, or Mark Twain. Now that's prose I can lose myself in.

Written any letters to the editor lately? I still have that one about patriotism that you wrote on the bulletin board in my classroom. One of the students read it for the first time this week. He was impressed.... specially when I told him you wrote it in high school. :-)

I acctually enjoyed Steinbeck also, every one else in school hated having to read it, but I didn't. I'm just weird like that, although I don't like all critically acclaimed books, most of them I abhore, you just happened to mention two of my few exceptions.

I'm finding the Victorian era more and more fascinating...the painting then, for instance, has to be a high water mark in Western Art, on a lot of levels, it was just great.
Prob'ly you're a bad influence on me ;-)
Good night everyone!

I hated "Grapes of Wrath". That's actually the only Steinbeck novel I've read.
Actually, come to think of it, I dislike most Great American Writers. Twain is an exception... I like the dead English guys, all the way back to Beowulf...

and yes actually. I cant get my concealed hand gun license because I am 18 you have to be 21, but the army called me, apparently they want me to go get shot at by Iraqis, and they don't want me to wait untill I am 21 for that.

This thread's just so stupid I can't stand it.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1073111/posts I'm no fan of Katie Colonic but this guy must be drunk...or stoned...
The hospital here is having a "Red Dress Ball." It includes the wife of the Very Conservative GOP Attorney General, the wife of the Very Conservative Congressman Eric Cantor, several women involved in other charitable work. A businesswoman who served in the cabinet of Democratic Governor Doug Wilder, a woman who currently serves in the cabinet of Governor Mark Warner...
Knee jerk reactions like this are why people think we are stupid.
To: schlohweiss
And you can't drink either!
I've only got a couple months left until I officially join the World of People We Trust with Grown-Up Things, like guns and alcohol...
And it's tomorrow now so I'm going to bed. Seeya... nice chatting with you!
