The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I am surprised I have not ever seen a raccoon here, seems like a good spot for them, and they could make mischief in the barn. Gidget might make them wary, but not very wary!
I have a daily regular coyote in the back forty... When the snow was here I could see new tracks every day, and even last week there was coyote poo in the witch's circle (not gidget poo, was a different color and full of hair). But he isn't a problem as long as he is just eating bunnies. And he really can't get in to the yard now from the woods with the new fence, so I worry even less. There are enough bunnies here in spring to feed a few varmits.

You know the other thing I haven't seen or smelled in ages? - A skunk. Seemed pretty common to smell or see them in the road when we were kids around here.
To: HairOfTheDog
I can send you some o' them.

Hey, I forgot to tell ya'll. Schlohweiss voted for the first time in the primaries yesterday. Then, she went to the precinct convention last night. Got elected precinct sergeant-at-arms AND as a delegate to the county convention. She's excited and asked me to pray and pass on the word for others to pray for her to get to be a delegate to the state convention.
I got a good kid!!!

Okay... maybe .2 seconds is something of a stretch... perhaps it just seemed like that. :-)
...and no, they weren't "cute little eyes". They were thievin' little rat-like eyes.
To: Wneighbor
What fun!!
To: HairOfTheDog
Coyotes one at a time aren't much of a problem... it's when there's twenty or thirty of 'em all howling around that things get a little wierd.
Times like that a box of left over fireworks might be handy. :-)
To: Ramius
LOL... thievin' little rat-like eyes huh? They are mischievous little buggers. And terrible to have on your place... but my brother had one for a pet for a while growing up. Funniest thing on the planet!
What I detest worse than anything to live around my place is possums. Egads. Nasty!

I was excited for her. And the whole tone of the email she sent me about this was very highly charged with excitement on her end too. Pray for her.... she asked. And I hope this kind of excitement about taking part in the process never leaves her. We need lots of kids like this!

I like hearin' 2 or 3 coyotes singin' in the night though. Very homey sound! :-)
Things would get interestin' in my house though when I had a female wolf and she heard them. She slept with me and she'd hear the coyotes far off when I was asleep and suddenly, I would be immediately awakened by her responding voice! Loud! No alarm clock could compare!

You got a series character flaw there! Just back from my E-9 Cask Conditioned Vanilla Porter. God's own nectar. The water at E-9 is no better than the water anywhere else. The pints on the other hand...

It's a ferret. The he'd have been that brave around my dog he'd have been a nice pair of earmuffs!

Ramius, Weren't you camping with us at Capital forest when Zulu was answering the coyotes and we realized she was calling them right to us?
We hear some coyote yipping from time to time that can only be described as a frenzy of some sort. Lots to say, not sure what about.

Evening all! Did more fencing today. Me tired. Hitting couch with some tunes and a book. Good Night!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Well, if he was a ferret, he was a young one, and not the standard ferret markings.
Gidget wanted at it, but there was a fence between them :~D
