Good morning, Carolinamom and happy New Year. I'm tired of my own cooking from all the holiday parties and will have Mr. Peach treat us to a meal prepared by someone else - even a hamburg will taste extra special.
Iowa Granny - that 12 step program for addicted Freepers is NOT working for me. LOL. Our guests last night got quite a charge out of seeing all the information immediately available from across the globe on FR and even delayed a game of charades for a couple of "check ins".

I know what you mean about being tired of your own cooking! Since I live alone and the house is now quiet, I'll be going out to eat for the rest of this week!
Thanks for the Steyn link, Dog. It's a real treat to read his columns.

Good for you! That poor little dog. I'm sure its owners will now be scared for their children to play in the yard.

What I've noticed is Mansour seems to totally have the respect and attention of all....including Brit Hume. There's quite a bit of biographical information about Mansoor Ijaz out there on the Internet for the finding: http://www.google.com/search?q=mansoor+ijaz -- Of course he's reviled by the Islamists, so some of the links will be quite critical. I hope we can continue finding more people like him who seem to see a value in striving toward cross-cultural understanding in favor of the forces for democracy.

Glad to hear you're getting some relief.
I've already had my nap for today. I'm not going to push it by trying for 2.
As soon as the football game is over, I'm going to finish up the Undecorating.

Agree with you there, risk. Well said.
Dolly, First Night hasn't been around in Akron long....maybe 7 years? Most of those Dec. 31sts we've been out of town, so we've never been!
Last night was exquisite weather-wise for all the events. Did you enjoy yourselves???
kay, my sister and I and our sons had a great sky-gazing session Tues night, altho the wind made it too brrrr.....BUT it was clear, and we found the Andromeda nebula very easily, despite the half-moon nearby.
She has less light pollution than I do too, so it was really neat to see so much!

Sorry I disappeared last night...but was caught up watching Edward Scissorhandss....it's just so quirky!
Last week the 1LT and I watched another Johhny Depp movie (Pirates of the Carribean) which I thought was a bit goofy. Depp does play some odd roles.
Anyhow, the LT really enjoyed the movie, and it turns out that it was a topic of conversation at our Christmas gathering last week. As a result, I posted a theme in the Freeper Canteen dedicated to the Pirates on Wednesday a couple of days ago. I figure if the LT liked the movie and the subject, and his age group peers did as well, then that was good enough for me.
I do not mind telling you and everyone else here, that it was a very good thing to see the LT in good spirits after all that has occurred during 2003!
Happy New Year to all.

My husband and I took down the real tree in the family room. That's all the undecorating for today. I still have to box up all the ornaments properly. Hubby is now napping, and I am simply looking at the news.
To: Radix
#92...Bless you and your son, indeed you've had quite a year!!!
I liked Pirates of the Carribean...very much, and even rented for this weekend.
Depp has some off-kilter political views, but at least he puts his body where his mouth is, and lives out of country.
I actually remember him apologizing for some remarks he made recently....
..unlike little miss loudmouth Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, who said recently ...with a smirk, I might add, that she is still against the war, etc, etc. but she would have made her statement more intelligently.
..yeah, right Natalie....and where will you get the intelligence :^(

I have had my nap.....the blackeye peas are simmering on the stove....
...and all the ornaments, etc. are massed on my dining room table waiting to be put in boxes....
...sigh....guess I better go do it.
Our dessert tonight is Apple Dumpling Pie from Bob Evans Restaurant.
That will be the hardest.....getting off this sugar high I've been on!!

My tree is down, the ornaments, candles, garlands, etc are all packed into boxes. The boxes are too heavy for me to carry, so they are sitting in the middle of the livingroom, waiting for #3 to return from a Bowl Party.
The game is over, now. But I'm realistic enough to not expect him anytime soon. Does anyone know how many games are left to be played today?
To: Iowa Granny
I think they go on through the late evening. Sorry.
