Nope. Probably won't be getting those. And, if I delay too long getting anything new (at least in the semi-auto category) the Cal. state legislature and the DoJ will be certain that I won't ever get another one.

Last Xmas I told my sweet wife what I wanted and she consented...a brand new SigSauer Classic Compact P-229 in .40 S&W. We've decided that buying our own gifts is the best way...that way I don't have to pretend to be thrilled when I get yet another sweater, and she doesn't have to pretend when I buy her yet another new vaccuum cleaner.

Yes, I'm joking...but one year I did buy her a shiny new calf-puller. The darn thing cost about $300 bucks...all chrome and stainless steel...she was pretty happy with that.

It's the gift that keeps on pulling!

From what I understand, the people doctors haven't discovered calf-pullers...yet!

a dealy with OB chains and a come-along designed for yanking the recalcitrant critter from it's mom. Often used on first-calf heifers...for some reason, after using a puller, the next calves pop out pretty quickly...no one knows why.

Lawd have mercy. Can't she just stick her arm in up to the shoulder to pull the calf out? I never have, but I've seen my family do it.

They used to give us kids the nice little calf for a pet, you know. We named it and played with it....until it was big enough to slaughter. When they did, we wouldn't eat it. I suppose that would be called emotional abuse today. LOL

Second batch is done. Now I gotta go back to the store. I don't have enough brown sugar for the white chocolate/macadamia ones. Argh!! I knew I should have gotten more when I was out today.

We also had calves that we would name raise. when slaughter time came, my dad ended up taking the animals to the auction, selling them, and buying others to slaughter.

Pretty tough to reach in there with a first calf heifer and have any luck. With the older girls, if something gets crossed up you can ususally get things right without a lot of effort...of course this always happens at 2 am at about 10-below zero.

I'm building my calving and nursery set up in my barn...a nice heated barn.

Those are looking good! I haven't started baking yet, but will get started in a couple of days. Since I don't have my new range installed yet, I'll have to use the existing one. It is so small, I had to buy small cookie sheets for. Last year at Thanksgiving, I could hardly get a 13# turkey in it, and had to remove the middle rack, so it sat on the bottom rack. Forget about putting anything else in the oven while the turkey was roasting - I used an electic countertop roaster for the ham.

We tried to breed all our first calvers to bulls that threw low birth weight calves...in the low 80-lb range heifers can usually handle them without problem. Our AI program sometimes gave us head aches...we had a couple of calves that weighed over 110-lbs. You better have big mamas when you start putting that size calf on the ground.

Sure wish I was home getting things set up for Feb. calving right now.

That's a pretty kinky piece of jewelry. Just don't try backing the tractor into the bedroom.

Just got back from the store. This town doesn't have anything! The macadamias I've got are awful (well they're edible, but not the best), but does anywhere in this entire town have decent macadamias? Nooooo!! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to make do. Grrrrr..... Back to the kitchen!

I guess you don't have a Trader Joe's there. Also Costco. They both have very good Macadamia nuts. I'd mail you some, but they won't be there anytime soon.

Are you kidding? We don't even have a Target or a Walgreens and what few stores we do have cater to blacks. I don't think most of them, at least the ones in Arkansas, even know what a macadamia is. It is really hard to find anything here.

I was kidding about the Trader Joe's, and I don't know about Costco. I would guess that you are quite a distance from anyplace that would have a Costco. I know the feeling - in the late 80's, I lived in a small town where I had to drive 30 miles to go to a real grocery store (and it wasn't that great), 70 miles to see an actual doctor and not a nurse-practioner, and the nearest WalMart was about a 3 hour drive. I lasted two years there. I will send you some macadamias if you like. Raw, unsalted? freepmail me your address if you want me to do that.
