Lawd have mercy. Can't she just stick her arm in up to the shoulder to pull the calf out? I never have, but I've seen my family do it.
They used to give us kids the nice little calf for a pet, you know. We named it and played with it....until it was big enough to slaughter. When they did, we wouldn't eat it. I suppose that would be called emotional abuse today. LOL

I suppose that would be called emotional abuse today.We also had calves that we would name raise. when slaughter time came, my dad ended up taking the animals to the auction, selling them, and buying others to slaughter.

Pretty tough to reach in there with a first calf heifer and have any luck. With the older girls, if something gets crossed up you can ususally get things right without a lot of effort...of course this always happens at 2 am at about 10-below zero.
I'm building my calving and nursery set up in my barn...a nice heated barn.
