Gavin Newsom Cheers As Federal Judge Torpedoes DOJ's Tim Walz Probe
Red State ^ | June 22, 2026 | Bob Hoge

Here we go again.

For years, I’ve used keyboard macros. I set one up in February so that when I press +K, it magically types out “Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.” That macro didn’t last long, though, because he’s well… dead.

I need one that types out “On [insert date here], a federal judge threw out [or issued a temporary injunction on] Trump's xxyy policy.”

In Monday’s edition, U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz, a George W. Bush appointee, tossed Justice Department grand jury subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, state Attorney General Keith Ellison, and some of their associates. The judge was extremely opinionated in his decision and went out of his way to blast the administration at every opportunity possible.

He claimed that the subpoenas constituted obvious retaliation against Walz because he impeded federal immigration enforcement in the Gopher State:

In a blistering ruling, U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz said there was “no doubt” that the subpoenas were issued to damage Walz — part of what he said was a pattern of Trump administration efforts to use criminal process to punish the president’s adversaries.

“Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action — particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take — is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process,” Schiltz wrote in a 29-page ruling dated June 17 but unsealed Monday.

The subpoenas were issued during the height of Operation Metro Surge in December 2025 and demanded internal communications related to state and local immigration enforcement practices. Blue states have been steadfast in their refusal to help the Trump Team clean up the illegal immigration mess that Joe Biden left in his wake.

You had to know that the ruling would send a thrill up the leg of fellow illegal immigration fan and leftist governor Gavin Newsom (CA):

Gavin Newsom crowing about clamping down on corruption — now that's a double knee slapper.

My question: Where were these grandstanding governors and activist judges when former President Joe Biden turned the Department of Justice into his own personal vendetta machine? Where was Schiltz when former AG Merrick Garland was trampling all over the rights of American citizens?

Unreal.

Following in the footsteps of DC Chief Judge Jeb Boasberg, who quashed subpoenas in the Jerome Power/Fed investigation, Minneapolis Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz--an admitted illegal immigrant activist--just quashed 6 federal grand jury subpoenas seeking information about Minnesota/Minneapolis Dem officials' collective attempts to violate federal immigration laws.

Schiltz claims the subpoenas are retaliatory and coercive (h/t Kyle Cheney):

The DOJ has not yet commented on the ruling, nor have they indicated whether they will appeal.

I’m off to write that macro in preparation for whatever news breaks Tuesday.

He can stop with the “I can’t breeve, Trump is kneeling on my neck” whining for a minute. These people and those that support them need some reality.

In over 250 years the states have not used their Constitutional authority given to them in Article V. Aside from the Chicken Little's running around with their panties in a bunch, the real reason is that the Court Of Supreme Whim essentially gave themselves the power to rewrite the Constitution whenever they meet.

Thomas Jefferson on Judicial Tyranny

Why add amendments to the Constitution when lifetime judges immune from the results of their actions will do it for you?

“He claimed that the subpoenas constituted obvious retaliation against Walz because he impeded federal immigration enforcement in the Gopher State”. Should have gone with gerbils.

Bush/Romney GOP scum hate Trump just as much. You can see them all over FR lately. Decision is basically “I hate Trump so I will ignore evidence of wrongdoing.” Black robed pig literally sites Trump calling Walz names as grounds for the quashing.

I am stupid but could it be Walz is a bad actor both in regards to immigration and the far reaching fraud which is the reason for the subpoenas. Walz’ opposition to that enforcement was not however what triggered the fraud investigation. That investigation is what lead to DOJ suspecting Walz’ could be implicated in the fraud. That does not equal retaliation.

So let me get this straight, you cant even TALK to Walz about ANYTHING..what kind of society is this..so a Dem can commit a crime and NOT have to answer for it, yeah I just answered my own question

What difference does it make if the investigation was retaliation or a legitimate investigation????

Shouldn’t the judge let the legal process play out so we can all find out whether there were legitimate crimes here or not?

In theory, I agree with the judge. If it was political activism by a zealous and partisan DOJ, then it’s a form of tyranny. But we don’t even get the chance to find out, do we? One man gets to play god on this.

...and let me ask another question, this one more rhetorical: Do you think a judge would throw out subpoenas that I received under the rational that it was some sort of retaliation?
Hell no! Not in a million years!

The reason why that is important is because of a two tier system of justice.
The “little guy” can easily be attacked and oppressed by tyrant prosecutors and investigators. No protection from the “process” except to let the legal fight play out.

BUT.... powerful people get protected from the supposed, theoretical “retaliation”.

The opposite should be the case!

Because for the most part, small guys commit small crimes that affect fewer people. Statehouse corruption and crime can affect a LOT of people!

“If we were in a real war it would feel just like this.”
~~~~~
Yes, but a one sided war at that.
If this were a real war time occurrence, any judge that interferes with finding (war time) crime and corruption would AT THE VERY LEAST get put under a powerful microscope.
One judge to ignore.
Partisan.
Circuit court reversal in no time.
These judges need slapped down. If only Republicans had the House! Oh, wait.
The Judge became another political actor ignoring all the legal issues of the state’s negligence in overseeing federal monies going to non-profits for social services, from which the levels of fraud seen in that area was the cause for the lawfully issued, grand jury submitted, subpoenas for Walz and others.
The legal matters around the fraud were sufficient cause and regardless of political differences between the White House and the parties who were subpoenaed.
Hopefully this ruling will be appealed and the case against Walz and others goes forward.
~~~

Yes. Trump stopped the dynasty when he made himself such a contrast to “low-energy Jeb”, who may have had a chance to win the nomination if Trump didn’t do a top-rope dive into American politics.

We are just dealing with the stains and echoes now.
