I think that the Democratic powers that be thought that James Talarico had a better chance against the Republicans in the general election for the Senate seat from Texas than did Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30).
However, they may have deluded themselves with that thought, as the problematic statements and issues in Talarico's past have come tumbling out. The Democrats are trying desperately to repaint Talarico as "not a leftist" and "clarifying" his past statements. That's generally a bad look; then he looks inauthentic as well.
They also have another problem -- they don't appear to have Crockett on board to stump for Talarico after he beat her in the primary.
Talarico’s campaign said the winning candidate recently personally phoned the lefty firebrand, who lost to him in the Democratic primary in March, and left a voice message inviting her to give a keynote speech at the party’s upcoming convention.
But Crockett told the Dallas Morning News late last week that she didn’t even listen to the message, ripping it as an “afterthought invite,” and indicated she doesn’t plan to attend the convention.
Oof, that sounds like she's a tad miffed that she lost and she doesn't think they are giving her enough attention for her support.
Crockett didn't just leave it there. She said she didn't know if she would campaign for Talarico.
“I have no idea. I am more focused on down-ballot races in general,” she sniffed to the outlet.
She also indicated there could be a problem for Talarico with black voters.
“I’ve not heard a bunch of kumbaya,” she told the outlet about Talarico’s standing among black voters. “People don’t seem to be convinced at this point.
“But there’s a lot of time between now and November,” she noted.
Alrighty, now.
That's not going to help if that's true. Talarico is going to need all the votes he can get in what's likely to be a very challenging race for him. He's going to need the black vote. If there's any angst from black voters over Crockett, that could be a problem.
Crockett made clear that she was opposed to the Republican candidate, Ken Paxton, and had never voted for a Republican. But she also groused about why people weren't asking Janet Mills if she was going to be campaigning for Graham Platner, whom she lost to for the Senate nomination in Maine.
“I will say it for the record, I am not currently running for US Senate, and therefore you will not see me on the trail as if I am running for US Senate....I will be helping down-ballot candidates. But you all are still focused on me. [....]
“There is one person that is guaranteed not to become the next senator in the state of Texas, and that's Jasmine Felicia Crockett."
Oh, she sounds like a happy camper. Not.
We'll have to see how much of an issue all that is, but Talarico is already going to have trouble grabbing people in the center on his own. And if her voters are not all on board for him, he could have more issues.

Do the kids still say, “Bye Felicia”?
Evil always eats its own, it is just the nature of the all-consuming hatred at the core of evil’s motivation.
AFAIK, yes they do!................
She’s basically telling them blacks won’t vote for him..............
Yep, and she is pretty much encouraging it with her “off” comments.
Wishing both of them to just clam up, forget it, & go home.
Wishing both of them to just clam up, forget it, & go home.
She saw how Bernie was given a house to placate him for dropping out of the POTUS race, so she is raising a stink to see if she can get a house from the DNC to make her shut up and support Tallarico.
Jasmine, don’t go away mad - just go away!
She’s angling for some sort of payoff to make an endorsement of Talarico to deliver the black vote.
It is all about ME ME ME Crocket. The female version of a Croc.
I am not a Texan, nor I live in Texas.
I have been swamped with Mssr Tallywhacker ads.
He is a voluminous Communist, with airs of collectivism.
Idk. As much as I cringe every time I hear her, it may help to keep focus on her. If she rips the Texas black vote from the Dems would that not be a good thing?
Everyone knows that blacks don't like little sissy g*y white boys, period.
I've gotta say that I see Jasmine's point here, for the first time ever.
In the long run she's gonna be more useful to the communists than Talarico. One wouldn't assume that he's even gonna be re-elected in his little pinko statehouse district in Austin; he'll have to go seek sanctuary in his uh... "church".
Jazzy won’t be able to keep her mouth shut.
It’s all about her.
She will torpedo tallyfreako bigly.
You’re a generation too late for this one.
I think she is right about blacks not voting for him, a obviously gay person. They may not vote for Paxton, but they won’t vote for Talarico ........
Two floaters in the swirling bowl trying to be the last one down the drain.
LOL. Translation - unless you kiss my black a__ - very publicly - I'm sitting this one out. I can't help but like her in a perverse way. Yes, her staff hates her. Yes, she's obnoxious and makes obnoxious comments. No, her comments don't make any logical sense. But that all misses the point. She's not a politician. She's an influencer. She lives on publicity and media oxygen. She's gonna say whatever she needs to say to stay in the headlines, including stabbing the Dem Senate candidate in the back. And I thought the drama would be Cornyn stabbing Paxton in the back.
