Democrat governors, many believed to be vying for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination, gathered on Thursday for a pricey Los Angeles fundraising event.
The private gathering — where tickets cost as much as $100K a pop — was attended by top party members like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Arizona’s Gov. Katie Hobbs, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, among others, the LA Times reported.
A ticket to attend the event, closed to the press, cost anywhere from $45,000 up to $100,00, with the money going to the Democrat Governors Association (DGA). The evening was expected to rake in $1.5 million dollars for the DGA, with around 45 donors in attendance.
Also in attendance was chair of the DGA Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. Beshar, Whitmer, and Newsom are all believed to be interested in running for president in the 2028 election.

Following the government's crack-down on the business, the brothers took another route: As it was still legal to sell alcohol as medicine, the brothers rebranded their liquor using names like "Liver & Kidney Cure", "Dandy Bracer-Liver", and "Rock-a-bye Cough-Cure". Samuel took control of the business after prohibition came to an end in the United States, and was known as "Mr. Sam".

A secret "sorority" within the group called DOSS (Dominus Obsequious Sororium), meaning "Master Over Slave," where women were required to provide "collateral" (compromising personal information or photos) to join. Abuse and Coercion: Female members were coerced into sexual relationships with Raniere, and some were branded with his initials.
Key Participants: Actress Allison Mack (known for Smallville) pleaded guilty for her role in recruiting women into DOS and coercing them into service. Exposure: The group collapsed after major investigative reports in 2017–2018 exposed its practices, later documented in the series The Vow. BBC NXIVM's "training" involved intense "Executive Success Programs" which, despite appearing benign to newcomers, acted as a recruiting tool for the abusive inner circle. The organization functioned as a hierarchical pyramid scheme designed to control and exploit its members, say former students.
