Texas voters overwhelmingly approved an amendment on Tuesday that adds noncitizens to the list of individuals prohibited from voting in state elections, reinforcing that only US citizens are eligible to cast ballots.
Proposition 16 passed with over 71 percent support as of Wednesday afternoon. The measure amends the Texas Constitution to explicitly include “persons who are not citizens of the United States” among those barred from voting. The list already includes convicted felons who have not met certain conditions for reinstatement and individuals deemed mentally incompetent by a court.
By placing the citizenship requirement directly into the state constitution, the amendment makes it significantly harder for future lawmakers to alter the rule. Any change would require a two-thirds vote in the legislature and approval by voters through another constitutional amendment.
The move follows broader efforts by states to ensure noncitizens, including illegal immigrants, are not able to vote. Federal law already bans noncitizens from voting in federal elections, but 14 states have passed constitutional amendments reinforcing citizenship requirements for state and local elections. According to Ballotpedia, Arkansas, Kansas, and South Dakota are scheduled to vote on similar measures next year. Meanwhile, California, Maryland, and Vermont currently permit noncitizens to vote in local elections.
Last August, Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the state’s ongoing efforts to clean up its voter rolls, which included removing more than one million ineligible voters, among them over 6,500 noncitizens.
“Election integrity is essential to our democracy,” Abbott said at the time. “Illegal voting in Texas will never be tolerated. We will continue to actively safeguard Texans’ sacred right to vote while also aggressively protecting our elections from illegal voting.”

I agree. Isn’t there a law that forbid non-citizens to vote? What in the hell is going on in this freaking country?
The only sad part is over 28 percent in Texas think they should.
Should there be a countdown to when a leftist judge of leftist judges overturn?
Common sense passed... there’s hope.
This was Texas with a major pushback against the leftists in Houston & Austin.
I wonder about the vote margin; I’ll have to try to find it later...
Is somebody actually “angry” about this? Time for Texans to join together and start kicking a little foreign national ass. If non-citizens want to vote, we need to start catapulting their asses back across the River and let them go home to vote. They screwed up their own crapholes, we don’t need the socialist scum screwing up America.
We can always deport that 28% of commie ahos too.
Cali transplants and jeets.
Judges cannot overturn constitutional amendments.
Not legally, anyway.
We need a law pass: 'The Election Intrigity Act':
Nationwide Voter ID. You should have that in your wallet. You need it to buy liquor...
No mail in vote. (Exceptions: You are in the military. Or living overseas as part of your job)
No early voting. (If you can't vote on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, you are not knowing the issues..)
Eliminate Rank Choice...
No foreign born people in office. (Are they for us or for their country they are from)
Transparency in campaign donations. Is it through an NGO? George Soros?
Ban the Democrat Party... 😀
Repubkicanscalso did VERY WELL in Arz and NV
We also did very well.
We have become so fucking stupid. Texas should close all public schools and turn them into high school football clubs, because that is all they are.
No one understands what a country is, what a citizen is, what a constitution is, nor from whom the terms are applied to.
Is voting by non-citizens a criminal act? Felony or Misdemeanor?
How about those people who take and record their ballots? Do mules who carry mail-in ballots from illegals risk jail time? How about the person who supplied those ballots to illegal voters?
