EXCLUSIVE: Pentagon To Ask Trump To Sign Off On Execution Of Convicted Fort Hood Shooter

The Department of War will ask President Donald Trump for final approval to execute the Fort Hood shooter, Nidal Hasan, a DOW official told the Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively.

The execution, if approved by Trump, would be the first carried out by the military since 1961. Hasan, a former Army Major and psychiatrist turned radical Islamic terrorist, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others during his notorious rampage on the Army base in 2009.

“I am 100 percent committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan,” Hegseth exclusively told the DCNF. “This savage terrorist deserves the harshest lawful punishment for his 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood. The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays.”

Hasan is currently imprisoned in the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Hasan lost his final appeal to his 2013 death sentence in April 2025, according to the San Antonio Express.

Under the Army’s regulations, the Army Secretary put forward the recommendation for Hasan’s execution. It was then passed to the Secretary of War to give “additional recommendation to the President,” the DOW official told DCNF.

“Inmate Hasan’s packet is now in the staffing process for presidential action,” the DOW official said.

Service members are governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and thus are subject to different procedures should they receive the death sentence. Hasan is one of four people on military death row, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

Hasan told a military mental health panel that the shooting was justified because the victims were “going against the Islamic Empire,” according to the New York Times in 2014. However, the Army controversially decided not to pursue terrorism charges at the time, the Pentagon instead designating the shooting as “workplace violence.”

The Trump administration has consistently shown its willingness to exercise capital punishment as a valid form of justice for particularly heinous crimes.

The White House did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

In pre-trial interviews, Hasan stated that he did not wish to hurt any civilians that day, only soldiers, so he came up with the false emergency as a way of removing Ms. Williams from the area.4 As soon as she left the area, Hasan shouted “Allahu akbar” and began shooting.

In a pre-trial interview, Hasan explained that he aimed for the most densely packed areas first, with the intention of killing as many soldiers as possible. After firing from behind the desk for about 5-10 minutes, Hasan moved on to find more soldiers. Hasan said that he knew he would be stopped and wanted to kill as many soldiers as possible before that happened. In the pre-trial sanity board report, Hasan claimed “I didn’t have a set sweep plan, but I wanted to be careful when I went into open spaces...I shot to kill.”

He further stated that as he moved through the building, he did not open any closed doors because he did not want to be cornered or attacked. Hasan exited the SRP building and headed for an auditorium to find more targets, but upon opening the auditorium door, he found a graduation ceremony going on inside. He could not distinguish between soldiers and civilians because of the graduation gowns, so he left and headed back towards the SRP building.

The earplugs Hasan was wearing prevented him from hearing the police officers approaching behind him, ordering him to lay down his gun. Police Sergeant Kimberly Munley shot Hasan twice, after which he turned around and shot her. He approached Munley and tried to pick up her weapon, but realized that his arm was paralyzed. At this point, Sergeant Mark Todd arrived and shot Hasan, who fell and lost consciousness. In all, the attack lasted less than 30 minutes. All but one of the 13 killed and 32 wounded were soldiers.

Part of me prefers that he’s stuffed into a 3-foot-wide cell oriented N/S 23 hours/day and released into the gen pop yard for the other hour to have his - ahem - exploited for the remainder of his existence in this world.

What is the military’s preferred method of execution these days? I’d like to see this man hang from a rope. This should be open to the public.

Staying in the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth might be its own punishment to continue if it didn’t cost the taxpayers any more cash.

Cheaper to shoot him dead.

” I’d like to see this man hang from a rope.”

Beheading would fit his ideology.

He’s an MD. Make him an unpaid prison doctor for the rest of his life.

KSM - Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is still alive. After 24 years he still hasn’t been brought to trial! So why does this guy surprise you?

I can’t believe after 24 years there’s anymore Intel to squeeze out of him!

I liked what Newt Gingrich said about Erika Kirk. She had the right and courage to forgive the killer of her husband.

But the state can't do that. If they gave him a pass . . .

So it's not as if Buckley carries out capital punishment. And in his saying "I don't like" he's speaking from a position of personal mercy, which is not afforded to him, generally speaking, and he's not in the seat of the judge for a capital crime.

Why is he still with us?!

(OT, I just learned this morning, that there was a murder at Goodfellow AFB about a year after I left there.
Some poor girl named (Private) Tracie Joy McBride, that had been there less than 2 weeks for training.)

Thankfully, that murderer had his lights put out on March 18, 2003.

Don’t be surprised if Hasan’s lawyers file an appeal stating that he has been denied his 6th amendment right to swift justice and that the long wait is cruel punishment.

I wont say unusual as long waits for the death penalty has become the norm.
